So thanks to the nice folks over on XDA, I know that I can flash to A17 (when it's available) without losing my modem file edits.
There are changes to the modem binaries though, which I would not be getting. Hopefully it's nothing too important.
Now I just wait until it's available for the Japanese model.

Did you notice that quickShare not working since Android 17?
When you want to send a file to your PC (for example, by sharing an image), as soon as you click "Quick Share," Wi-Fi turns off, leaving only Bluetooth and mobile data active (if enabled for Quick Share). Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn't even detect the PC.

It works fine with Bluetooth.
I can´t find WiFi in the settings. Am I missing something?
This is with my Japan Android 16 phone.

Just turn on wifi even if you have no Router connection to be able to enable quickshare. My quickshare works fine currently, there's was once it did not connect too but that was before android 17 and for a short two (?) Days. I think google was trying to do something there.

Let me clarify: what I described is a bug acknowledged by Google (
support.google) caused by the introduction of Quick Share compatibility with iPhones. So, what does the Xperia 1 VIII do? It intentionally turns off Wi-Fi and establishes a sort of Wi-Fi Direct connection (due to the differing protocols between iOS and Android). File transfer *should* still work, yet numerous issues are actually being encountered. The August Google Play system update was released this morning, and things seem to be running more smoothly in my specific scenarios and across my various PCs.

Good to know. I honestly never use quick share for anything. Maybe I should. Also, still waiting for A17 ...

Quick share has become more user friendly and faster file transfer between mobiles and for me, even transfer between my windows Laptop. No cables needed. It's similar to wireless drag and drop with wifi sped.

Yea I just never used it before. I don't even think my 1m2 had it. And I don't really find myself transferring files to my pc or other people all that much. Pics are shared through online services usually.

I use it a lot—dozens upon dozens of media files a day. Unfortunately, yesterday, after getting home from work, I couldn't transfer anything; the connection between my smartphone and PC just wouldn't work. Google needs to fix this quickly.
