I barely can't wait to know more about those new handsets Sony Ericsson is going to reveal any day soon and we can also expect strong demands of handsets made by other brands than Nokia. Nokia will definitely not be able to stay at 30% of their market share and no smartphone will help them at the moment.

If u take a look at the quarter to quarter comparison (see picture above), u would see that when Nokia volume goes down Q1 04, then SE gain with increase in Q1/Q2.
If u look at Q3 04, u will see Nokia volume goes back up and we see that SE volume increase tapered off.

I read here many statistics and sale infos etc i never believed in such things. I talk usually with shop-managers of diff operators, and the older ones are mostly /// and se fans, however all 3 operators in hungary sell mostly nokia, samsung, siemens etc even for the same price a t610 would be a better deal for the user. So i dont know who creates that statistics, but its a rarity to find around me an se freak and all i know were /// users in their whole life. I mean, not many newbies here.

The problem is that Nokia made less profit per sold phone due to their price cuts, and it is not very likely they will be able to have this aggressive price policy if they don't bring some new technology because people are getting more involved with better display, better camera etc. Nokia fails here and you know this.
Nokia earned 18% less for a single sold mobile compared to the last year. Is that what you call for doing good? I don't think so. Even analyzes are not so positive yet. We might know after this year end where Nokia is going.

On your point whether Nokia can sustain the price cut. Who knows? They still make 19% (down from 29%) margin on a phone. This is quite high compared to other electronics sector. Nokia may just keep margin at this level and go for volume increase to bump up profit.
Contrast this with SE margin of 8% per phone. It is low compared to Nokia. Like I said before, if Nokia were to continue with more price cuts, it would be harder for SE to follow (unless doing it at the expense of profit).
i dont agree with ur point Nokia is sitting on their butts wrt to technology. From Nokia recent announcement, u can see they are improving with better products (e.g. 7610, 6260, 6630, 6170, 6670, 7670) which can match or even surpass those from other manufacturers.
