I was quoted £499.99 over the phone from Sony Ericsson direct. However, they also stated that it was a rough price as they didn't current have any stock.

As for the Timescape question you are only partially correct, I want to see how it handles large contacts databases as they are held locally I have approx 800 contacts in my phone mostly business but some social and I am not going to part with a lot of money unless I am certain this thing will handle the work load as well as if not better than my existing device. Common sense I am sure you will agree.

It seems from the videos that network bottleneck and specific social networking settings greatly effect how "fast" timescape works (from what I can tell from the videos at least). If you're concerned with local content only (I'm assuming this means only locally stored text messages, photos, and possibly pre-fetched emails, I think you should be safe.
I'm curious if there is a setting in time scape that allows it to pre-fetch content on pre-defined intervals or when specifically told to refresh. That way all content is essentially "local" and the speed of timescape should dramatically increase since it doesn't have to wait for network traffic while it retrieves content from facebook/twitter, etc.
Like you, I'm curious how it handles large amounts of data. I have quite a number of contacts myself would need an efficient way to manage all of them and their communications.
Hi MooGoo
I use almost zero texts and I closed my Facebook account some time ago so I am not concerned about how long it takes for the online stuff to download as you say it will be what ever the network coverage in your local will support and I don't think its really relevant when discussing how fast Timescape will "run". If the data is there Timescape will run it, unless you try to use Timescape whilst its reviving data and in that case almost any system will offer a reduced speed.
However Timescape will still have to load whatever content you do have on your device into its interface, and as I have around 800 contacts many with photo id! I am concerned it will cause Timescape to run slowly.
I am not sure that loading a few texts will place any strain on the system!

In the X10 at CeBIT with the prefinal firmware there were also very much demo-contacts inside.
The scrlling worked very smooth though, but without showing the photos immediately, the photos were loading I would say (from the view of a programmer) in a separate thread, so it didn't disturb the scrolling. After some photos are loaded they are put in a cache - the memory - and were showed up next time immediately. So the photos are loaded through another thread for those cards which you can see on the screen at one time...
EDIT: Also from my view as a programmer, the implementation seems to not to be limitated by the number of contacts, the speed would be the same (constant time for scrolling not depending on the number of contacts). What is not constant is the memory used for the photos cached (linear memory usage depending on number of contacts), this could be solved by precaching only a fixed number of photos at one time in memory. Those pictures in memory that were first cached will be overwritten by new ones (FIFO, first in first out), that's the rough principle how memory management works on an operating system on pc or other systems. Plus the memory management of Linux is very good in comparison to other systems like Windows, and as Android is based on the Linux kernel it should be very good (and maybe tunable).
Sorry for my bad english, but I hope, you understand how it works.

Indeed you have a legitimate concern. I, too, think of it as a concern but I am fairly active with social networking sites. I think for your needs with just 800 contacts and zero text messages and few social networking, it might be easier to just use mediascape for photos or the contacts app to manage your contacts.
Timescape seems to be more for those who have to manage a multitude of content sources all in one place.
I am curious, like you, to see how it would handle a large number of contacts with varying degrees of content, both local and internet based. I'd love to see a review with the latest firmware tackle this and explicitly give us information about the number of contacts and specific timescape settings. If anybody here on esato has the X10 already and is willing to do this type of review, it is very MUCH appreciated.

Hey all.
There is one thing I'm not too sure about Timescape, does it sync with your phone contacts facebook or just facebook in general. If it does the latter then I'm sure it will struggle as I live on FB, with over 900 contacts it's going to crawl, Plus the same with Twitter!

i'm pretty sure it will only look for FB for your phone contacts, though i'm not 100% sure.

For a moment there I thought the Japanese get one with in all white and one in all black inc. keys and side chromed parts, but I realised they're just a black /black silicon skins.
