Sony has something like five to ten times smaller team and R&D budget
than those big guns (Apple, Google, Samsung even Huawei)

what do you really expect from them? See the reality not wild imagination

seriously even keep phone business running steadily is brutal already.

That is the problem with Sony Mobile. The rnd is so small yet Sony as a whole isn't that small.

no quick charging on the new EC270

Guess the EU rules don't apply to compatibility only that the port is the same on all devices? This is odd, I feel one could challenge sony with the compatibility issue with other phones in the EU at least. It technically is a charging cable?

Probably too much current passing through that might damage headsets connected while charging if some of that current goes through the audio jack.

The standard audio signal in Type-C doesn't go through power pins, it goes through the regular data pins.

This another reason why such adapters are bad idea. not just for carrying them but now even for functionality. just use a single charging cable with a small dongle in the middle to connect the headphone to it..

i dont know how much big sony mobile r&d team, but sony mobile makes 7-8 billion dollars revenue in one year, i doubt you can explain shitty camera algorithm with just money spending, i cant explain even why only xa ultra's front camera has ois while others dont have.

I think it's important to keep focus on the fact that Sony seems to be fixing all the things about their phones that people have complained about for the longest time. The camera is greatly improved, the front facing speakers are louder and produce better sound, the bezels have been trimmed down, the US finally has a fingerprint sensor out of the box, and it's got wireless charging for those who want it...

I think this is a great first step with their new design. People who have handled the new phones say they feel great in the hand, so that's another plus. In the near future we're going to see the dual cam with new processor chip so that's going to likely be a big selling point for them if it delivers on its promise. In the not too distant future we're likely to see things like in-screen fingerprint sensors, folding displays and if the rumors are true a 4K OLED display. I'm very excited to see what's around the corner

Size of the imaging module. Bigger module requires bigger OIS gyros and more space. Sony's flagships to this day, have by far the largest image sensors in phones outside of the 808 pureview.

Many stuff are in-house.. All tech comes from other division
Huge R&D budget does not seem really that necessary.

Samsung and Apple can built a phone that costs $400 because both know they will sell tons of millions.
Even if they charge $780, $850, $900 in places like USA, UK, France, Germany, South Korea...
I believe other like Sony, Htc, Motorola and Asus avoid high cost devices because they know they won't sell that much.
Then they have to sell cheaper to stand chance..

I think if they can price Premium no more than $1000, it can bring a good money in few areas like Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and UK.

Here Sony brought XZ 32GB, XZP and XZ1 for same price.
5% cheaper than Z5 and 20% less than Z5P.
I have no idea how much they plan to charge for XZ2.
I expect something between $ 1230 - 1360

xa1 ultra's thickness is 8.1 mm and front sensor size is 1/2.6" bigger %15 more then 1/2.3" sensors.it doesnt explain to me how a phone with 11.1 mm thickness cant solve space issue.

edit i mean smaller, sorry...

Was reading GSM Arena's preview of the XZ2 and Compact:

https://www.gsmarena.com/sony[....]_xz2_compact-review-1731p4.php

"What has changed, however, is the processing, as well as a couple of new/improved features. Besides being a true number-crunching powerhouse, a quick look at the camera section of the Snapdragon 845 reveals some real next-gen mobile photography potential. Sony has played a special part in all this since it helped co-develop the Qualcomm Spectra 280 ISP in question."

So I don't think it's fair to claim that Qualcomm is solely responsible for the improvements on the camera front when Sony co-developed Spectra 280 with them.
