not a great comparison. clearly, 20mp manual is capable of producing great pictures as I have , and others have, shown in sample photos in the other thread. Z1's camera takes time to get used to. It's not a beginner's camera like the Iphone 5s. Contrary to what Sony advertises, it's not really for any noob.. though the superior auto mode can produce pretty good pictures. It's in manual mode that the camera can really shine in the right hands.
shame that there are so many of these types of comparisons putting down the Z1's camera when it really is very nice (and hopefully will get better). the dpreview one was the most fair, I think. Though even with them, I think it was too quick of a comparison to make a conclusive statement.

speaking of pictures..
Does anybody know if the UNLIMITED Play Memories storage is part of the Z1 purchase? I remember Kaz mentioning it during the announcement, but none of the promos have said anything regarding it. I haven't tried storing anything there yet, so I'm just wondering if anybody had any info.
I just checked and my account still says 5GB limit

Sony need to work on their image processing. Its too heavy-handed. Or at least provide the option to shoot RAW. I'm pretty sure unedited, the Z1 will produce better shots. Sony still has a shitty image processing algorithm on their phones though it seems.
Hopefully an update resolves the teething issues.

^it has improved over previous devices and it has all the potential to get even better with updates. as it is, it still produces great shots (you can see them in the photo thread). vast improvement over prior devices, i think.

@nzrocketman has hihihans said.. try everything!! the fun is getting to know all the various settings and seeing how it effects the photos you get. it's the only way you'll learn how to get the most out of this camera

of course you can always just rely on superior auto.. it should do a really good job on a bright and sunny day.
congrats on your Z1 btw. i know you were concerned about the screen before.. how is it?
