I have to agree, while both are great and nick to nick, the Z1 should be better as Sony worked harder in it...
I might not have Z1, neither do I have the 5S, but what can I see here is that Sony still didn't have the full optimisation they can ( or should ) do in the software side... and also we used to know this habit from Sony where a future software will greatly improve the camera performance...
The problem is: Websites review doesn't do a re-review in most cases and doesn't update most devices... so what ever problems that any device will launch with, these will stay in the eye's of reviewers and coz a lot of normal peoples will read these reviews to take the final decision of having the phone... well you know the rest...
Apple is well known to take care of perfecting the software before the launch, thought there's a lot of exceptions ( Apple Maps as big example )... but in general Sony should work more on perfecting the software for the launch... as this is what all the reviews will have in general...

Taiwan panel makers are seeing steady handset
panel orders from Sony Mobile for use in both
the mid-range and high-end smartphones.
Sony is REPORTEDLY allocating some high-end
panel orders to AU Optronics (AUO) for 5- and
6.5-inch units, while Innolux and Chunghwa
Picture Tubes (CPT) are receiving orders for
panels used in mid-range units. AUO is also
supplying a large volume of smartphone panels
for use in Sony mid-range smartphones.
Japan-based JDI meanwhile is expected to
supply Sony most of its high-end handset panel
demand in 2013.
Sony aims to ship 42 million smartphones in
2013 followed by 65 million in 2014.

Imo, i believe AUO will be main supplier coz i dnt think Sony will rely only on one source.Could Sharp or Samsung also be provider?? Maybe Dacha or anyone else can confirm.
Also digitimes.com is not always accurate.

Because with their soft rubbery layout and buttons, they look like it and with the Z1 being waterproof and its waterproof headphonejack it would make sense if the bundled headphones are waterproof as well?
It doesn't say anywhere, but who knows?

The model that comes with the Z1 is the M1HC which uses a different audio standard but is otherwise the same.

That's the poorer one. Colours shift when viewed off angle. Brighter colours, like pink, tend to shift towards yellow or white, when they shouldn't.
