And which r the best hotels in Srinagar & the other places U mentioned ??? Which offer net connections, maybe Wifi aswell
will be caring my lappy 4 trading, gaming & maybe some downloads
if the connection is fast enough.
And how far r U 4m Srinagar or the other places U mentioned ???
If postal service is bad then hand deliver might work

about the airport...landing in a jammu/kashmir airport is breeze...if u are boarding,u sould check in 2hours before take off.ur car will be parked 10meters away from the airport entry from where u will have to drag ur baggage to the airport.and they will open up all ur baggage(check in or hand)...no matter what.even food items and cosmetics.i saw the security lady ask a lady passenger to drink part of the babyfood she was carrying to prove that it was babyfood.
trains...till couple of years back,the last northern railway station was jammu.now a railway station north of jammu (udhmpur exists..30-50km from jammu)...a railway station in srinagar may open up sometime in 2010 soon after laying the tracks.
so the best way to reach srinagar still is by airlines unless u want to waste a day from jammu to kashmir by road.only take ur prized valuables in handbaggage like money,jewellery,camera,laptop(but no battries allowed...maybe mobile phone battries may be allowed now) etc.
Hotels...safety is the most important factor.so i recommend Grand palace(5*),himalay(j&k govt..3*),broadway(3-4*) and jehangir(3-4*...but jehangir is close to secretriate so wont recommend u).
wifi??i thank go that they started mobile services after a long duel with security couple of years ago.and broadband came less than a year ago.but i think a company is covering dal lake with wifi.dont know about any hotels providing net or wifi.
i live in jammu....around 300km from kashmir.the road to kashmir is hell...rocky winding roads(never look down...u will feel dizzy) and to top it,the notorious army truck drive rashly.if its bad weather,the roads are closed down.and its 1 way traffic sometimes with alternate days...like 1 day jammu to kashmir.the next day kashmir to jammu.
sure...hand delivery works fine but how?

which will defienitely be highly recomended by mrao as well as vin...
cool house boat to spent the night in... also you might want to check out the backwaters at alleppy and etc.. etc.. etc.. which is endless....
thuggie, mrao, sanny boy, raj, (the doctor from malaysia and his wife? anybody remebers their names
) and finally shyam, blue whiz and myself have a kerala connections somehoe or the other...

Ebay india has quite competitive prices for sony memory pro sticks, 1Gb is around 3K while 2GB around 5K. Though you would never know if they are original or working fakes. That peace of mind you will get only by buying from Sony World.
