I have the Samsung Wave 2 which is excellent device & the icons are large on that but it looks great
And the new Bada 2.0 coming soon looks like Android

It is an awful waste of screen real estate but it seems as if this is part of an effort to stave off Apple's challenge that it resembles the iPhone. I personally want a phone that looks great but does not resemble the iPhone.
I think one of Samsung's weaknesses is in design. the GS2 while it is the best available right now it could have been a sexier thing.
Let us see if this cause Samsung to make an even sexier GS3 next year.

Android has the edge but the upcoming 2.0 update looks like Android and a million times better. Apps are growing. The Wave was reduced to £99 from £300 and yet it has 512 ram 1 gig processor 800x480 screen gorilla glass display and the most solid metal design i ever felt in any device its lovely in the hand. And not a single issue with it yet in a few weeks. I love the Wave 2 much better than the first one. Email works fine battery is great too. The 5 meg camera and HD video are brilliant
It is a shame the GS2 does not have the premium design of the Wave. There is You Tube videos on Bada 2.0

That returns us to the saying "you get what you paid for". Premium materials like metal, not chromed plastic demands a little more cheddar$$.
That said Samsung is almost there with design. The whole super thin thing is getting out of hand to be honest. 15mm vs 12 makes no difference to me.
