upfront meaning one time payment of the phone without contract. i guess that will be similar to sim-free?
anyway, i'm planning to get a voda one too. frankly i don't mind the branding that much. i will be heading for japan on business end 2004 for a couple of months. hopefully the japanese versions allow international SIMs so that i can use it when i'm out of japan.

lynn can i come with you?
If I know vodafone.... they are terribly likely to lock their phones. Especially on a market where they want the customers/revenue so badly.

lynn: yr question is question number 1!
up to now (pre-v800/v802) NO japanese wcdma fon offered by vodafone japan works with any gsm sim or 3g usim card. this is a fact. i have tried them all, and none work.
however, the se v802 just might be the first one. how much sense does it mean for se to make two different versions?
we will find out...

@ niji
question number 2 will be if the japanese firmware will carry english language font pack! coz if it doesn't i won't be able to send smses to ppl who do not understand japanese!
by the way, isn't the motorola v66 a USIM phone from voda that is being offered in japan? or is it not wcdma?
@ vlamm
i'll be glad for company!!!
anyway, at a glance it seems like vodafone is trying to make phones in japan that work with SIMs...perhaps that is their marketing strategy in japan? they will do very well if that is their mission

My Friend at the local Vodafone store said that the phones will be released on Wednesday 10th in sweden, so it is just 6 days away now!
