you guys are ridiculous, if any of you have taken any business courses you would know performing such action would make Sony exit the market even sooner. Why would you want Sony to remove its competitive advantage? waterproof is like the ONLY thing they do better than its competitors....

Well that's funny cause waterproofness is not saving Sony. We are not saying cancel that feature. Add a bigger battery, better camera and better speakers, waterproofness will not be missed much by then. Samsung tried it with S5 and they saw it does not affect anything, S6 came around.

What you say is ridiculous, because what you say doesn't treat the problem. you want good sales? you advertise and make the device available everywhere and as soon as possible. is that alone enough? no. consumers won't choose sony because it is water and dust proof and other are not but for the whole package. not one good feature will save any company and the absence of it will certainly won't make sony exist the mobile business. unique feature is important and can help to sale more but ip68 just doesn't cut it. why and how to treat the problem? aim to be the best in everything, not just in one thing. not just in advertising. be the best in as much features as possible will give sony more sales. listening to consumers will give sony more sales. improving what consumers do more with a mobile phone should be in highest priority (audio) and will give sony more sales. regarding protection, no consumers bitch about phones stop working after a drown in the pool but people bitch about phones cracking, shattering, bending, detaching. treat THAT sony. thinking water and dust proof will save sony or give them more sales is ignoring the problem. i can assure you, best front speakers in mobile will give sony more sales over ip68. will that alone save sony? of course not! but nobody here suggested that anyway.

One thing that might be improved on the next camera could be the HDR mode which will now be SME-HDR (IMX230) vs BME-HDR (IMX220), I believe the difference is that in SME, 2 different exposures at once, vs 2 separate exposures at 2 different times in the latter, which can lead to ghosting.
Of course the processing aspect also has to be proper in order to achieve a good effect and not a crappy one as we have now.

@thetube and amirpog, it is still ridiculous to think in such way. first off, you guys have no statistics or any evidence that illustrate waterproof feature is cannibalizing its sales. That being said, trading off waterproof feature for just a tiny improvement to the overall speakers is a ridiculous choice. There are, probably 0.1% of the buyers are only thinking on the same page as you guys. Majority of current buyers probably purchased it because its waterproof. Dont get me wrong, you guys think great, but the proposed idea is not viable for Sony to act right now. Especially one wrong choice can put it out of business. If Sony is as successful as Samsung, yes, they can play around and test the markets, but the true fact is, they dont have that kind of cash available to burn. Maybe you guys can see that in the new series after the Z5, who knows. But from a business perspective, they will not ditch waterproof feature anytime soon.

if I'm not mistaken water proof smartphones are quite popular in Asia. I've seen a static where over 80% of android phones sold in Japan were water-proof. Heard that they take their phones everywhere they go even whey they take a shower.
