The ones mechanical.. like the one Indian forces used during a big tiff with neighbours in 1965, where actually "just" trainer aircraft. Despite good men who would give training on these "Gnats".. the same pilots did not have as many flight hours on other Mirage/ 25 odd MiGs we had..
So as a last minute desperate measure.. Gnats were deployed for live combat
against the Sabres' , F-13s etc

Now look at the irony.. gnats were itsy bitsy crafts (a strechy limo size) with a small turnaround.. while the Mach2 capable PAF babies needed around 2km span to maneuver.. THAT & the trainer pilots' grit who flew them made them winners !!!!!!
