The issue is .....
Most people buy midranges/low end.
Those that use 10/10+/L3 would have bought another brand if they did not exist.
How much % of xperia sales are flagships?
L3 is very similar to M series.
Google now has midrange.
Htc is bringing low ends Wildfire series.
I dont know how many 10+ Sony needs to sell to earn same amount of money they earn selling one unit of 1.
But what if sales decrease to less than 1 million without midranges?
Samsung for example would fall from 300 to 40 million units.

Sony's midrange can't compete with those. Pixel has a very capable camera and updates, Samsung m series and a series catches up with the current design trends. And there's also cheap flagships or upper mids from likes of Xiaomi.
I'm sure if 10+ had at least sd660, a more capable camera and maybe a pop up camera with its long cut less square display it'd have sold more.
BTW alpha uses R and S for different camera strengths. Do you think these 1R and 1S are similar? Like 1r for high mp and 1s for that 3 um pixels. There's also a 1V, I'm not aware if any camera models that feature the letter V.

I dont think they would split flagship line according to camera purposes like their Full Frames.
Cameras are very similar, just sensor is different.
Cellphone is whole different story.
Higher res has one downside: speed.
If X1 with 12MP can do 10fps AF/AE, no way with same SD855 a phone with let's say 48MP would be able too.
Unless they increase dram 4x, which would make sensor even more expensive than is already.

If u look clearly at the current mid range market then sony midrangers are actually the most overpriced and featureless phones out there.. Nope they cant compete with the m series bro
Xiaomi vivo oppo realmi and asus has very decent midrangers
The thing is sony should up their batteries cut the bezels and increase the battery capacities and provide more capable cpus at least sd660 in their midrangers
This is from a purely objective stanpoint and i dont want to appear as if i am bashing sony
They should go the iphone route that is the best way forward
One mid range(compete with xr) one flagship one compact flagship and a premium

Prices vary a lot for every market.
One country has Xperia midrange for $300, somewhere else same phone is $450.
Samsung is in position to lower the price because they know they will sell no matter if device is good or crappy.
They are everywhere, all stores and on tv all the time.
Cant even count how many Galaxy adds on Sony Channel.
They have much more in-house components, they get cheaper compared to other brands pay.
Last year here LG and Samsung had SD450 devices for a huge price.
As high as XA2U and Moto Z3 Play.
But still easily outsold both.
Also here Xiaomi is too overpriced. Their phones cost way more than Samsung midranges.
Redmi 7 costs more than XA2 was last year. It also costs more than Moto G7.
Something I see is that Sony Mobile treats all costumers as they were people that read about tech and will look for the latest pieces available. They put ddr4/gorilla5/BT5.0 on L3 but people still buy other brands that use ddr3, gorilla 3 and BT4.2 because these phones have 64/128Gb , 6Gb ram and more MP.
Oppo/Vivo have tons of phones with HD screen and microUSB. They are awful with updates (even worse than LG) and no tech site likes their UI. They have cheap devices, but few are too expensive for what they pack. The I am sure if you visit any country of Southeast Asia you will easily find their phone for sales everywhere.
Let's see Sony. No Xperia on TV, no outdoors, no stores, no deals with T-Mo and AT&T in USA, most of them you can only buy unlocked and not all colors available.
How are the phones supposed to sell?
I am sure if I ask my neighbor what phone brands she knows, she will say Samsung, Apple and Motorola.
Chance of Sony being mentioned is smaller than World Peace comes someday.

Wonder what the chances are of Sony dropping the horrible 21:9 format now when the phones obviously won't sell. They should drop out of manufacturing all together. Create a mobile camera division and outsource all design and manufacturing to Foxconn like Nokia has. Just smack a custom camera on it.

Motorola is already bringing 21:9.
Soon other brands will too.
I prefer 16:9 , but none of them do it anymore.
All between 16:9 and 21:9 should not exist.
I prefer Xperia flagship but if they made a midrange ( because cpu is not that important to me) like this I'd buy :
- design of X1
- SD665 is enough
- screen of X10
- plastic body
- 19MP imx400 + 12MP 52mm / 8MP selfie with AF
- IP68
- dual + sd slot
- 4Gb/64 (32 is enough for my needs)
- 3000mAh
- price of X10+

Sony needs people to buy their products
What midrangers are u talking about bro
Go check out redmi note 7 pro, asus zenphone max pro m2, Realme 3 pro, galaxy m30 and come back
Dont be stupid and come up with excuses all these phones have Bluetooth 5.0 and who cares about frigging Bluetooth anyway
Xperia 10 which is way overpriced and under specced... It has a comically low 2800 mah battery
Just use one of the above midrangers and then talk bro
At least read the opinions from users
U will be the only person who says that sony midrangers are worth the money

5g phone may not be a flagship or belong to the same series.
Are they doing m4 aqua again?
