I dont know how much a Xperia costs to be made.
Except Motion Eye and battery, X1 does not seem to have more in-house stuff.
When you order to s of componets like samsung, bbk and xiaomi you can bet for better price.
OnePlus has tons of stuff seen on Oppo/Vivo previously, so R&D is barely necessary.
Xiaomi CEO said few years ago (I think when they brought mi6) that IP rating would increase costs by 20% at least.
Only the pieces to make phones like Galaxy S and Iphone cost more than $400.
Honestly, I doubt X1 costs less than $550 to be made.
Someone told me that he knows people that would buy xperia with they could buy through carrier in USA.

There is no mid range soc with a 5g modem in the market currently
So the only manner in which it will be specced down will be the screen size and display resolution
I dont think that will be big trade off
They should sort out their battery issues as fast as they can
Hoping for a new custom imx
Havent seen a new one in a while since xperia xz1 has released

Quarterly sales figures that just came in were for XZ3, X10, X10+ and L3. These were the worst figures in Xperia sales history. XZ3 had a nice screen but nothing more, the rest are garbage. If Xperia 1 is doing well for this quarter then it is conclusive evidence for sticking only to premium. The only other thing I'd do would be a Compact because of it's legacy. Forget the rest because Xperia is on it's death bed because of these consistently trash phones coming every year. Also, sack the people responsible for XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ3, X10, X10+, L3, XA2.

I think the main issue is with the design team and the engineers
Those people cant make a phone with the necessary internals and usually makes something that has a very small battery and is also very heavy
Sony can simply learn something from its Japanese counterpart asus i this regard
Edit: i just noticed something gsmarena reduced xperia 1's rating to about 4 stars

It has to be a management issue. Designers are meant to think outside of the box but this doesn't mean you have to approve them. Also they may be forced to work with certain constraints given their financial situation.
This year's lineup was revamped in a short time. The real work of the new management should mature going forward.

Hope they remain flagship in this 21:9 ratio form factor. Minimum battery of 4000mah, put 3.5mm Jack and maintain the rest specs same as xperia 1 or better with 5g included. Camera with better auto focusing and display remain OLED with better sunlight legibility. Probably smaller size by a bit. I love holding this phone though ~ better heat dissipation for upcoming phone too.

Xperia 1 has very few shortcomings unlike previous sony devices, i think we can call it a step in the right direction, but will they improve from here or will it be the z3 z3+ z5 saga all over again... Successive phones which were too identical without much to set them apart
Xperia 1 being narrow enables somewhat comfortable one handed usgae
Now the prime issues that can bring drastic changes in sales would be the weight and battery capacity of the device
Camera has a lot of room to improve and there is lot of tech to be implemented.. Hopefully a second gen aube chip
Another thing is the loudness of the speakers.. They have room for improvement so does the front cam

To have a 5G midrange now, they need to put SD855/X50 inside the phone.
Like Samsung A90 5G.
Let's suppose they make a version of "X20" with it.
Maybe not more than $100 higher than regular "X20" may cost.
According to first leak, "X20" has size of X10, but with 2x zoom ( bulge looks thicker like 10+).
Rear panel very shinny, like glass.
If X10/X10+ had 3000mAh and 3580, both would last bit more than previous generation.
X1 has imx445, it is new.
Not same used by Samsung.
Exclusive for xperia.
2 million units so far.
I think until December they reach 4,7.

This x20 should not exceed $499
Judging by the cam protrusion I think it's likely that it has either ois or the 48mp everyone is using. But so far we've only seen the Japanese version. It may not have a global version.
I don't think Sony is rich enough to put 855 in a midrange. What Zack meant probably is that X2 will have 5g but won't be better than X1. Hope they don't do 5g only.
The imx445 might be exclusive to Xperia but it's pretty much the same sensor of the s devices and pixels. They might upgrade the software later to improve. It's not like 1 is done. Currently in gsmarena samples X1 has the better detail in low light scene. Its weakness is hdr, they should offer an always on HDR setting in auto. And ais for extreme low light.

They were asked before about using Quadbayer.
They said this sensor would not give any advantage over a native 12MP.
At least they should have kept imx300. Old but still great.
Look at the samples of gsma.
Compare the snail shot of XA1 and XZP.
XA1 looks better, the bush behind the snail and hotel wall (brown part).
They priced xa2+ something like $100 above xa2U.
I highly doubt X20 will be less than $100 above 10+.
We cant forget that x20 is midrange of new chapter, while 10 is xa3
When is the event? Sep 5th?
I would like them to try carbon fiber like Sharp Aquos One.
