Personally I don't think any mobile OS has been really targetted or will for the immediate future.
For a start both Symbian (with Symbian Signed) and Windows Mobile software cannot install itself without the users consent or interaction, and secondly there is no obvious way of the virus transmitting itself between devices to spread. People in the past have talked about Bluetooth being used, but this is a red herring - Bluetooth itself is perfectly secure, it tends to be users themselves who are daft enough to leave their devices as visible without authentication that post the only risk.
In addition the new Symbian Signed process should go some way to preventing viruses/trojans and malware ever appearing on the platform.
I am of the firm belief that viruses and trojans post no real issue to mobile devices and their threat is vastly overplayed generally by companies who have a vested interest in selling software to prevent them.

To be honest this screen alignment issue seems to be more software based than anything IMO. I used my tytn for a week with the Original CHT9000 firmware that came with it (yeah I can read a bit of Chinese), anyway I flashed it to the English DOPOD firmware and guess what my screen is acting up now.
Oh and and I damaged the holder were the stylus sits in (another problem I believe plaguing the tytn) so be carefull if you taking the stylus in and out.
Checked with HTC EUROPE and entered the serial of my phone to see if it was under warrently (even though its bought in Asia) and the website came back and said still under warrenty so I am quite happy with that.
And finally for those on T-mobile word is that you have to contact T-mobile to activate HSDPA it may show U on the screen but you not actually getting the HSDPA speeds. Goodluck.

I haven't got a screen alignment problem but since day 1 I have a sticky "back" key (the one under the jog dial). I've had an RMA to return it to Expansys for a week now and I have finally decided to do so tomorrow since its not correcting itself (I thought it might wear in).
They seem to have plenty of stock so I should get another fairly quickly in the meantime I guess its M600 and P990!

When the p990i was first announced, I was absolutely amazed. It was everything I could have ever asked for in a phone, and loads more extras.
Fast forward 2 years...The phone still looks amazing IMO but its let down by the fact that other manufacturers have far surpassed it's specifications.
2mp camera? Well there are a few 3.2mp camera phones out now-even lg's 5mp offering.
3g? Old news now-the TyTn has HSDPA.
Upgraded platform? Well windows mobile 5 is out now, which seems to be a lot more stable so far. There are also a lot more programs being released for it.
Wi-fi? Doesn't have 802.11g
I know for a fact that if SE had released this earlier, i would have definately bought it. I year ago i would have probably sold my grandmother to fund one of these. Even 6 months ago,the technology wouldn't have seemed all that dated, and still drool-worthy.
However, now, it just seems a like you can get a lot more from other devices-well namely the TyTn.
I've owned a p900 and a p910i, and I had my heart set on one of these ever since it was first announced, but now it just seems a little like it's not as cutting edge as an SE flagship phone should be.

Im new here, Im from norway, and i bought a SE p990i and actually today i sent it back for refund. after one week of having it. I realize that the phone is boring. Its nice, but having 2 SE phone is not good.
The SE p990i has little keyboard that sometimes hard to input letters. The handwriting sometimes bad, when i want to input a period character, the screen hardly able to write it,instead i need to use the keyboard to enter the period character and other characters. The sound is good but not as good as se walkman phone, picture is good too but the photo light is weak and i feel the autopokus are not working good..
The thing i dont like is, The SE Web Browser is not so good. i dont know about the HTC Tytn. in se browser .im not able to view some website with java embed on it or java plug-in.even on the settings the java is enabled. i can not download certificates too.which is very important for me to access some banks here in norway and website with live streaming video. I can not see how to configure the connections type and bands . Like using the Wireless. I feel i dont have so much control of the configurations. The menus are very simple.. not like the HTC, the htc tytn offers more configurations and menus(more informative). first time played with P990i, about few minutes, im able to know everything about the phone menus and configuration, and find it very very simple.
My husband has SE m600i, it has TODAY screen (appointments and shortcuts)which you can change it not like in P990i, nothing at all.. just the 4 icons.. which m600i has it also. So its only 4 icon and your wallpaper. is that nice?
One thing also, the battery drains so much. i think after 6 hours of having it. the battery gets low. so i need to recharge it.. sometime im school.. and i dont use it so much and gets low bat. i dont like that i need to recharge it after half day.
THe phone hungs and after 10 seconds it will restart and the phone will tell you( the phone restarts to give you good performance) same as SE M600i. i dont see good performance after 4 times of suprise restart while using some application on it. The phone call and sms is good.Its heavy..
As soon as i have the refund money, ( in norway, its legal to return internet products with in 2 weeks.) i will buy the HTC TYTN.. which i think i like more. Please correct me if there are things i should be aware of before buying the HTC TYTN. please help me with my decision..
TURNING ON AND TURNING OFF the SE p990i take time. i dont know why.

Either way, it still seems like ages, and I also really do think that they have been out-techied by their competitors

Whilst your points are vaild based on your experiences I think it is reasonable to say that the majority of us who have the P990i are pretty happy with it, and haven't really experienced major problems and the constant restarts you talk about.
I would agree though with you in respect of UIQ3 having been simplified, although UIQ has never been a vastlyl over complex GUI. I actually think the instinctive simplicity in UIQ is actually quite refreshing compared to the complexity of Windows Mobile. Much as it is quite fun to mess around with the Windows Mobile OS and tweak the registry, sometimes it is nice just to have a device which "just works" and I think UIQ fits the bill pretty well here.
I think some of the ideas seen in UIQ3 are there because SE at some point (and they may very well still plan to) extend Symbian/UIQ out further across their range much in the same way Nokia have done with S60, and if UIQ devices are ever to see any mass market traction, they need to be relatively simple to use.

Yeah I must admit myself, October 2005 seems a long time ago, especially when we've all been waiting for the release with suh anticipation.

I also mention my thoughts on the TyTN and M600 in comparison to the P990. These are initial thoughts and I suspect the P990 will continue to improve with firmware updates.
