While we are at it... how about dismissing the whole membership debate completely?
In order to host a subsciption site you need a fund (+ strategy) to attract new users via advertising (otherwise you gradually go bust as existing members begin to fail to renew their subscriptions). If Laffen had this budget available, he would not have been posting warnings about 'no funds left' etc...
A membership site is a totally different proposition to Esato in its current format. Lets just forget it shall we?

in order to raise awareness why not email all members letting them know of the plight- if even a fraction respond it would make a massive difference?
seems like a pretty simple way of getting the message across- could just use the first post in this thread from laffen as it seems to sum up the situation quite well.

@black cat, right now yes. we need to ramp up though on the next philippine sony ericsson user group meeting. let me highlight though that this is just the effort we're having in the philippines. we've setup different accounts accepting donations for esato, and will be pooled and sent to laffen in one big bunch to minimize foreign exchange loss (our currency is not doing well against the dollar) and stupendous bank charges.

Black Cat - Did I offend or come across as a know-it-all?... I didn't mean to & am sorry if I did.
I have some ideas to input simply because I run several companies - but I don't claim to have all the answers. I'd hate to think anything I've written caused anyone to stop contributing - especially someone as obviously dedicated to the cause as yourself.

sorry wuz, having a bad day at work!
just out of curiosity, what would the implications of charging for ringtones/logos etc. in some form, whilst leaving membership free be?

laffen - nice idea with the logos etc. its probably the only way to make the freebie hunters pay any attention to whats happening. will they be coming back on line at certain times only, or are they having an extended break?

Blackcat - That depends on a no. of factors:
i.e.
- cost of maintaining these services
- no. of visitors who use the site for these services (c.f info/chat)
- How these services compare to the comptetion.
- Possible charges that can be levied for using these services V amounts of monies needed to keep the site going.
Answers to the above would help determine whether this is a possibility.
