They are going like that for...lets see...two years?
Nothing high end, nothing EVEN CLOSE to high end.P990i was the last one,but considering the software issues, its more like a high end prototype than anything else.

Its all about competition. The European market is kinda different compared to Japan's.If you look at the month bill of a Japanese customer, you'll see he pays 100$ and more every month. With this amount of money going to operators, development is much faster and of course,it is controlled by the organizations that HAVE this money. And these organizations are not the manufacturers of the phones, but the operators. Also, the operators develop things like one seg DVB and etc. which are in pace with modern Japan's consumer tech.European operators are not rushing things just to compete with the Japanese operators, because these technologies haven't become part of European people's lifestyle. It just doesn't seem profitable to do it for 1% of the market, considering the huge investments that should be made.

those awesome phones??
You mean EXACTLY the same phones as in Japan?
1)Due to lack of SIM card slots
2)Due to lack of appropriate networks
3)Due to lack of enough consumers willing to pay the premium price(these phones would be very expensive even in Japan,if they weren't bound to expensive tariffs)
4)Due to agreements between the operators in Japan and the mobile phone manufacturers not to sell these so desired phones to other operators or unlocked(well, considering the lack of SIMs...in the bigger part of the operators networks...).Thats the way to attract the customers to certain operator.

also a couple of points that can help explain why they don't come to europe
1. very limited production capacity of certain modules
the WQVGA OLED screens
Sharp's ASV screen production capacity is just able to cover the phones for all 5 carriers in Japan
2. the very limited services to go with the high specifications
what's next after getting a VGA screen? do you have contents to make use of that? what's next after getting all those 3D chips and AGPS? are your maps free? are your maps updated enough with restaurant reviews? contactfree cards? how many shops/vendingmachines/airports/train stations can use that? and having the same standard around the world? right, 5MP cameras, can you send 5MP photos via MMS? can you upload those photos to social network websites? are social network sites hit on cellphones? can your cellphone watch youtube? (now then can, with Flash3.0on 905i series, not the watered down youtube mobile)
3. relatively slow turn over rate of phones outside E.asia

you`re right, but i would have bought it anyway: the big and nice 2.8" screen, a much better cam than the one in my K850 (not that it is bad
) and a nice design

That attribute keeps SE from unleashing it's potential. if 70% of the users want ughh
slim phones(in which we can hardly find great features at all) then don't blame SE for failing of producing good phones
how about those who want Japan-like technology?
because of those slim lovers SE europe did not give us something like this

I call the 3rd set of photos of the Symbian conference a fraud.
My reasoning. The concept phones, especially the one on a lanyard has been used MANY years ago by Ericsson ... there is even a thread on Esato showing photos of early concept smartphones in a fashionable state.
