wrt to sale, if u like u can think in terms of relative peformance instead of total volume.
I agree with u over time there will be narrowing of profit margins. Unfortunately companies like Nokia and Samsung are ahead here. Like I say before if the price war continues (as it did in PC industry), SE will be at a great disadvantage because of its low margin. And it takes much longer time to increase efficiency in production to compensate. So SE may go into red again.
btw: if u look at SE Q3 report footnote, the figure includes the consolidation of BMC (a chinese factory) which has a "positive results". What it means is that if u exclude the profit contributed by this factory, then SE phone profit margin for phone is even lower than 8%.

OK, lets divide "edge" into categories:
sale/volume: clearly Nokia has an edge in this department now and in the immediate furture as well
Technology: SE wins here but Nokia is catching up, SE should stay ahead for a while as long as they don't keep limiting their own phones (ie: no more memory limit on memory sticks)
Built-Quality : Nokia has slight edge?
Value (does the phone worth the price?): SE is $$$ but loaded with Tech, so worthy if you use them all. Nokia just has so many phones for so many different market. But if for the same price, I will pick SE over Nokia since SE will have more functions than Nokia. SO if a user knows what he/she wants from a phone and what he/she wants is somewhat high-tech, SE has an edge
Looks (most important of all): Nokia looks better. But I am in loved with K700, like an angel....
(feel free to add another category if you think of any)
Now I suggest that we will post stating what category for clarity.

well nokia does have an edge in "human technology", especially on their lower series of phones. c'mon, let's face it, nokia's interface is better than se's. but what nokia gives for interface, se makes up for technology and forward thinking. take for example the se t68i and the nokia 7210. both phones fall under the same category but when compared to recent technology, the t68i is still in the ballpark with its inherent technology while the 7210 is beaing left in the bargain bin due to its obsolescent being.
i dunno but for me se will always have the edge over nokia. i'm not saying this because i'm a long time ericsson user but i've experienced an assortment of phones and without a doubt, as of now, se wins the mobile technology edge. i guess you could call it future-proof.

I think we hv gone down this road before many times. Most non-SE fans would take ur statement with a pinch of salt (as ur statement only sounds rhetorical without any logical backup or elaboration)

SE better get their act together for the user friendly menus. was using a nokia 6600 for over 10 months now, just swapped it in for a T610 to see what the fuss about SE phones was. i'm sure this isnt the right place to say it / as well compare a smatphone with T610, but yes my 6600 rocked. however the newer K700's & K500's are a step into the right direction.
i also really miss the ability to load up third party apps on Symbian OS.
Next phone = iMate SP3 / Orange C500 / Windows Mobile Smatphone

yes, nokia might have many ongoing developments but until I see them in a finished product, I don't know how good they will be.
Value: let's check out some of their more popular phones T610 and 6610 (well my sis has 6610 and my gf has T610 so its easier for me to compare; It could be personal statements tho.) They both costed the same. T610 has a camera and bluetooth and a better screen. 6610 has a very user-friendly menu. Clearly, T610 out-valued 6610 here.
Also, my P800 still amazes ppl after 2 years, something i couldnt do with a nokia. I live in California and yes phones here are ALOT slower but still.

Even when compared with more modern mobiles the T68i still holds its own in many respects, despite the fact that it is now three years old; three years is a rathe rlong time in the mobile phone industry. The main flaws of the T68i, today, are the lack of an integrated camera and a low resolution screen, however, it should be pointed out that several mobiles today are lacking in both these respects so these aren't quite the problems that they might first appear to be in terms of comparing technology.
I think the fact that th T68i can still be considered a viable option today is a testament to its technological edge. The same can perhaps be said of some of SE's other products; I'm quite sure that we shall still be able to consider the the T610/T630 a viable GSM mobile in a few years time.

On ur value comparison, how about a K700 and 6600. The 6600 is a smartphone and is cheaper than K700.

T68i was a great phone and is technologically advanced when it was launched. However, around that period, Nokia also came out with the 7650 (first symbian smartphone). The spec and technology of the 7650 was also exceptional at that time.
