I just talked to a supervisor at Sony Ericsson USA about returning my MW600 for a replacement and I asked about the x10. She couldn't give a release date for the x10 but she did say they just got their prototypes in yesterday. She thought we wouldn't see a release for the x10a till June or July. Not sure if this counts for the Canadian version or not. I hope she is wrong but it was a statement from someone at Sony to me.

oh.. june or july would be really bad.

I'll personally be keeping a lookout for them. Since rogers will have them in april, chances are some will be availble unlocked on ebay...

If you want 3G in the USA (aka the X10a) and don't want to wait, apparently the X10 (international version) has the correct UMTS/HSPA bands for T-Mobile (900/1700/2100).

The HTC Evo is a proper competitor to the X10, thats a beast but X10 has a lot of nice software features over the Evo. If you're going to do a copy and paste phone, do something like this not the X10 weenie and weenie pro.

Yea. you are correct. T-mobile USA uses Euro Standard frequencies for their 3G. But i've been a long time AT&T customer and prefer to stay that way. In addition, T-mobile seems to have spotty coverage around here and is terrible in buildings for some reason! Moreover, AT&T's 3G is faster...

the HTC Evo is a nice phone. but design wise, i still prefer the X10. I am a bit discouraged with the many reviews knocking the build quality of the X10. For the price, I think the materials should be very high quality. I don't mind all plastic as long as it feels solid and doesn't creak and move about with normal handling. Some reviewers have stated that the build quality is very nice and not a concern. I hope the retail version will be very solid. A proper android upgrade, I think, should increase the X10's performance. Of course this is all dependent on when the upgrade actually comes. With SE, this is always some concern. However, with their recent "make people smile" attitude, I'm hopeful that they won't mess around and make the upgrade available as soon as possible. I also like the UX skin over the sense, at least from what i have seen in videos. Have used the sense in person, but obviously not the UX.

And this probably isn't too relevant since rollout is a few years off, but isn't WiMAX essentially a dead tech? I remember reading the primary companies who helped sprint roll out wimax have focused their efforts on LTE along with everyone else in the world. Again, rollout of LTE is a few years off and by then the HTC Evo would be old news, so this isn't really relevant unless you plan on using your phone for awhile. Might be a concern then.

I am curious if that swedish review site ever got feedback to their inquiry to SE regarding the touch screen's refresh rate? As they noted in their review, the refresh rate was slower than other capacitive touch screen phones on the market and is likely the cause for the slight delayed response seen in certain applications (but for some reason seems really snappy in basic android functionality (i.e., pulling up the menu, switching desktops, etc)). If anybody has info on this, share

@Moogoo

I agree. If the X10a won't be here until June/July, I will have moved on to a different phone by then. Getting a Rogers one would be OK, but I really don't want any branding on the phone whatsoever, software or hardware-wise.

On a different note, I'm actually pretty happy with the eBay prices. The X10 can already be found for $750 from well-known sellers. Now I know $750 is an extreme amount to pay for a phone, but it's only going to come down from there. By the time the X10a comes out, who knows how cheap the phone will be!

Just plumped for this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]tem=260574571711#ht_2692wt_939

24-48 hours distpatch, 2-4 days transit. I'll post when I get word it's arrived at my UK address, I pick it up 10th April.

This should be just perfect for me as I spend half my time in China (who aren't getting this handset) and half my time in the UK and the seller has informed me this will have HK regional firmware on it. So it'll have Chinese and English input.

No doubt many of you guys will have yours by then, but I'll post anything interesting about the device up, if no-one else has said anything.

I agree. branded phone would be bad. I'm just hoping since rogers has to get their phone from somewhere, that some ebay sellers may be able to get their hands on unlocked x10a models that have yet to be branded by Rogers. I also agree the price is reasonable considering how early it is. I saw that some even had 2-3 day shipping included. I'll wait til end of april and re-evaluate... hopefully there will be some good news between now and then.

@RickyD Awesome man! I'm glad you're able to get the white one while you're in the UK like you wanted. I look forward to your post reporting your impressions.
