The audio output is in stereo and with very decent sound from the earphone & inbuilt speaker.
You can even download unreal player or powermp3 for playing ogg & mp3 sounds with good playlist, equalizer & skins.
you can convert ur songs from mp3 to ogg with about 1mb size per track with very good quality sound.

@artwales: sure you wont go for the S700i? if you dont really need a touch pad the phone is great!! Large res, good mp3 play back. only fault is it has only 32mb and 32mb mem card but can take a 512mb mem card.
