X1 to see a pre-christmas launch as planned

Sony Ericsson has denied reports made by Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, that the Xperia X1 would not make a pre-Christmas appearance.

The Swedish paper cited problems with the Windows 6.1 operating system, which the phone uses, as causing a delay. However, a Sony Ericsson spokesman denied that there were any problems with the software and said that the phone would be launched in Q4 as planned.

It's all very well them denying these "reports", but the reports have come from an SE rep, at a trade show, with three of these unfinished phones in attendance - they've hardly come out of thin air. Whether or not they press forward with a pre-christmas release, there are very obviously still problems with the handset that should not be there so late in the day - there's no other explanation for why so many came away from that stall at IFA telling the same bad-news story.

Considering the Touch Pro is on the market now, in shops, and in pockets, with minimal problems of any kind reported, it's really looking bad. Another month's wait is bad news, for it to be released then in anything less than perfect working order would be an absolute embarrassment (if this unending saga isn't one already).

SE are really making themselves look stupid over this. It's a phone, at the end of the day - they had prototypes working (to a point) back in February, they really ought to be able to start selling by now, but they can't even demonstrate it properly at a trade fair..

I count 4 months to go. That means we are only 2/3 of the way through 2008, which is not the end at all!

Well it's still on Play.com as well for an October launch:

Vodafone are now showing it on the UK site as 'Coming Soon - About To Be Launched' , along with the C905 as well.

Can't be far off then

They do tell them dont they! I doubt very much there is a problem with WM 6 it's self.
Just the bits the incompetent morons jokingly refer to as SW engineers have managed to massacre on behalf of their employer! Do us all a favour just use the HTC interface its better than anything you could build and it works NOW.
