Masseur, the price/features equation is more complex then it looks:

- for me the camera on the P990 is one significant feature missing on the M600. The speed of the M600 on 3G tells me that I would not miss wifi; keeping in mind that higher speed wifi does not always translate into improved browsing experience because the limited speed of the CPU and graphics processing. So for some people the P990 is very expensive in the context of the M600 (not an issue for me as I buy these things because they are there to buy!)
- the HTC TyTN has HSDPA which will work (in the UK) later in the year when Vodafone and T-mobile networks are up and running and WM5 is updated to exploit this option. Now HSDPA may be more beneficial on a device with a fast CPU like the TyTN. No Symbian devices support HSDPA at the moment (I think its part of Symbian 9.3). So in this context the TyTN is very good value when considered in the context of the price of the P990 and M600

Interesting posts on the TyTN vs P990... I am coming from a Treo600 (waited for the P990 now through two Treo revisions...sigh) and have always had Palm PDAs and one thing I am wondering/not seeing in the comparisons between WM5 (TyTN) and Symbian 9.1/UIQ3 (P990) is security?

Is it an advantage for P990 running Opera vs IE on TyTN? Are there more viruses/exploits for WM5 than Symbian, or has MS done a better job with their mobile OS than their desktop? What about any on-board encryption of private notes, or bypassing/hacking device passwords? Who wins with these items in mind? This device for me will be for business so security is important and I see little info out there comparing these two options and would appreciate any advice-

thanks,
Dave

ok, i ve just given the TyTn a 5minute try at my local store and the keyboard is just incredible : i could type much much faster than on my m600i (and probably on the p990i). The second thing that stroke me was the snappiness of the device!Oh my god it s so blazingly fast!I could switch on/off the device several times almost instantly : very impressive! Oh and the browser could actually connect to my bank account on their internet site(https) which the embedded browser of the m600i and opera mini have always failed to achieve. I think i am really going to give the device some serious attention mainly because of its incredible thumboard!
I sincerely believe that anyone bound to drop its hardly-earned cash on the p990i should really consider looking into this device as an option

@DaveDigerati

hopefully others will add to my comments

- encryption. The only third-party app with encryption for UIQ3 is Handy Safe (which is like Splash ID and can read Slash ID files for import of data)
- I think for SE P910/P900 file encryption apps were available so we should see such developments for the P990
- my M600 can have a PIN set for like any other phone
- I think the virus situation may be over hyped for Smartphones, but I think Nokia Series 60 (previous version) are likely to be targetted because of the high number of units that have been sold. The P990 is supposed to have anti virus and firewall protection. Also with the Symbian Signed-for process I believe attack from viruses should be minimised for Symbian 9.1 devices
- anti-virus is available for WM5 but I don't what it will do to performance of the device

@corentin

a few questions:

- the instant on/off is a standard WM5 feature called 'power save'. Without this the device battery would run down very quickly. I assume you were talking about this and not a cold start as being instant
- when you were web browsing to your bank did you use your SIM card and network or wifi, the reason I ask is that I have had problems with my network provider (T-mobile)

I must say my M600 is super quick so the TyTn sounds very impressive. Did you see how much RAM was available?

Note: perhaps we should start a separate thread on P990 comparisons to HTC 3G devices?

Have been playing around for a cople of weeks with an HTC TyTN.

Brilliant PDA, Fast and responsive, not bad camera except on video calls (front camera bad).

I tendto load this type of device with many heavy applications (Spb etc) and this seems to have slowed it down a bit.
Have not tried wi-fi yet.

Bluetooth works well with the HBH-DS970 though not as well as the M600.
My only worry with this unit so far is that i keep losing some calls or people complaining that they can not reach me..they claim to get the busy tone when they call.

I am not sure whether it is the phone, the sim card, or the network but non the less you still get the impression that the device works better as a PDA, although the voice call quality has improved over the K-Jam.
M600 is much more responsive as a phone though (voice clarity, signal strength, etc..).

I am looking for a firmware update but too early I guess
This short experiencewith both devices leads me to believe that P990 will be a more complete and fun to use device, not to mention more stable, provided that SE has learnt from the M600 mistakes..
