I feel there is no point in speculating about the design from one small piece of the device, that would be like extrapolating an entire dinosaur from a vertebrae and rib.

So.. odds of them fitting a Bionz-X processor in the Z3?
I mean, they're putting it on all their cameras anyways, so might as well!
But first It should be a real chip, not software based

Lets not get too hasty.
Thermal dissipation characteristics of the phone must be good enough to handle a dedicated ISP chip like Bionz X.
Chances are, a phone as thin and small as it is, cannot handle such a thing. It would almost certainly cause overheating, which will impact battery performance, and may negatively impact the primary SoC. I mean the Z2 overheats by recording a little bit of 4K.
Granted the Z series phones have better thermal characteristics than other phones (unlike others, they actually get warm, which means heat is conducted away from the components, rather than being sealed in), and the waterproofing means you can indeed run it under a tap to cool it off quickly, but still.
Sony will need to create a dedicated Mobile version of the Bionz chip, which is small and has sufficiently low power draw, to not compromise thermal characteristics and the general performance of the phone.
Also, I agree that this metal band, seems odd for a flagship phone, which I would imagine is precision milled from a single block of metal for rigidity and an uncompromising industrial feel, and aesthetic. Seems rather unnecessary to have an additional metallic band on top. Or worse still, having an overall polycarbonate phone, with the band replacing the aluminium, instead of supplementing it.
I still want to see a Magnesium-alloy used in phone construction. Y'know, the stuff they use to make expensive cameras. That stuff feels SO good in the hand...

This was discussed many times, and the problem it comes down to is heat dissipation and battery use.
If perhaps there was a large enough heat sink and a good way to dissipate heat, ie no water or dust proofing then perhaps a small dedicated chip might be possible but I wouldn't think a bionz-x would be used.
it won't happen, at least for the time being I feel.

That.
i believe sony is ditching the docking port for waterproof usb + new wireless charging since nothing in the frame suggest a docking port + all reliable info coming from digi-wo in the past was right as far as i remember.

I don't really mind if it hardware or not, as long as it can deliver a promise
take a look on average Optical Image Stabilizer which has 2 axis, it's hardware but Sony latest software stabilizer just blow it out off water.

@HxH
Not necessarily true.
Besides, DIS usually requires cropping the FoV, which OIS would not require.
Sony have capable engineers, I'm sure they could work out a 3-axis OIS solution given enough time. Combine it with their already good DIS, would make for an incomparable camera experience, in terms of stabilisation.

@HxH
FoV is decreased because of the software stabilization. And you can only appreciate it on video. A 3-axis (2-axis seems not as useful) would greatly help in both stills and video.

Now that Nokia is finally out of the game, can Sony now use Carl zeiss on their smartphones?

^ no, i think microsoft bought most assets of nokia and these include the outstanding exclusivity contracts the company has with certain suppliers or manufacturers. i think they renewed the CZ agreement before the MS takeover.
