My new pc does not have no ps/2 connections and the keyboard and mouse are both usb. I recently brought a new keyboard which is a ps/2 connection so i brought a PS/2 to USB CONVERTER / ADAPTOR but when i connected it to my pc i get the standard new hardware, then unknown device and then this messege:

and the keyboard does not work. How ever when connected the num lock button works when i press it the light comes on. What is the problem? i have tried diffrent keyboards and mouses and 2 diffrent PC's

Have you tried a USB keyboard rather than a ps/2 keyboard with a converter?

Yeah, XP only has built in drivers for 'true' USB keyboards and mouses (mice?

)
If you have Servcice Pack 2 you could try obtaining the driver online. With the keyboard plugged in, right-click on 'My computer', select 'properties', 'hardware' then 'device manager'. Find the keyboard in the list (it'll have a cross or exclaimation mark next to it) and then double-click it. Click 'update driver' and follow the wizard. When it asks you if you'd like to look for a driver online, select 'yes, this time only'.

Hve you tried expanding all of the USB device trees right at the bottom of device manager? Unknown USB devices are often listed there.

I've just had a PM from someone asking how to manually uninstall an application, thought it might be usefull to post it here.
If you can't remove a program using add / remove programs, you need to do the following:
1. Download and install this program -
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
It's a safe and easy to use registry cleaner that you'll need later on.
2. Restart the PC in safe mode. Shut down or restart the PC and repeatedly tap the 'F8' key while it boots up until you are presented with the windows advanced boot menu. use the arrow keys and enter to select safe mode.
3. Open 'my computer', double click on 'C:' (the hard drive) and then double click 'Program files'.
4. Find the folder that contains the program that you want to get rid of. They're usually named after the program itself, or the company that created the program. Be very carefull here, if you're not sure, open the folder up to see if it gives you any more clues.
5. Delete the entire folder
6. Restart the computer in normal mode.
7. When it's back up, run easycleaner and use the 'clean registry' option to remove any registry entries that the program may have put in.
That should do the trick!
