HP Compaq laptop - but my P4-D PC at home does the same.
Drive's appear separately (F:\\ and G:\\) with no probs.
Very strange indeed. I have a Mac without the need for drivers so the "DRIVER" theory is not feasible. I also have a PC at home that will charge my iPod, k800i, XBOX wireless controller, all without the need for drivers. I think it is a hardware issue. The best would be to contact SE where you live and ask them. Down here in Kuwait, the tech guys say that the drivers are only for communications purposes.

Exactly - the USB is 4 wire - 2 serial data and 2 power. The power is controlled by the PSU and it is the voltage levels supplied by the PSU that are critical. I think the difference between the K750 and K800 is the internal charging circuit. The battery is different but is the same potential. The PC drivers only control the interface to the PC and are nothing to do with the supply of power to the USB (E.g. the light on a mouse is from USB 5V).
There is something about the K800 charging circuit and the differences noted in this forum maybe down to the PC it is connected to and the voltage level and current available to the USB port. I believe this is nothing to do with data rates hence the discussion re: USB2 etc is flawed.

@O2 K800i,
I have been saying this pretty much the entire thread. Funny how they detractors are now gone.
Anyway, I hate USB. Firewire is much more stable and contrary to popular belief, faster than USB 2.0. Also Firewire comes in two flavors as well, 400/mbs and the screaming 800/mbs, and all FW ports are powered properly.
Apple follows the USB standard as closely as possible which is maybe why my phone charges when connected to my Mac.
One thing you might want to do is to: delete the USB host from your computer. Start --> Control Panel --> System and look for devices. Delete the USB references. Reboot and let your computer find the USB host again and this might fix any communications problems you are having.

Well you know some of us actually have lives to live, rather than on some forum, bragging about their Mac being magical and so on....
I would love to congratulate you on your fine help you have provided....I believe it was, wait a minute.....um....oh yes....call
, now I wonder why nobody else thought of that.
Weel congrats on your fine piece of work, ripping everybody else's ideas apart with a nice bit of arrogance, nice one!
Have fun, I'm sure loads more people will come to you oh holy master of the USB!!!
Cheers

@SE Whatever,
What have you contributed to this thread? One word: Nothing. You come here contribute nothing as usual, show how completely inept you are and then want to insult someone. If ANYTHING I have said is wrong, I challenge to prove it here in this public forum. Show where I am incorrect. Opppssss. You can't because you do not seem to know much about anything. As I offered before, if you want to continue the insults PM me and I will school you in this as well.

@SE Rules - This forum is supposed to be discussing the SE firmware problems not abusing other users.
@Sapporobaby - My K800 comms is good with PC - just the charging issue. I dont yet understand why the phone can power the USB since the battery is 3.7V and the USB is 5V. I'll do some tests today in the lab.

This does seem rather strange. Are you using USB 2.0 or the older technologies, i.e. 1.0, 1.1? When you say "the phone can power the USB" what do you mean. In the enclosed USB link I posted, it gives the specs for USB and this might shed some light. What is more interesting about your problem is that my Mac, can power the phone, but can not power an external hard drive. It would indicate that there must be a considerable draw on the USB from the external hd as opposed to the phone. Also, my PC at home can power my phone (WITHOUT DRIVERS), my wireless XBOX controller (ALSO WITHOUT DRIVERS), and several other external devices. One other interesting note is that my USB can also provide power to my Garmin GPS device through the Mini-USB port. From everything you say, it would appear that there is a problem with the k800i charging system.

USB power arrives as 5.01V from my PC and laptop to pins 4 and 12 of the connector.
The mains charger supplies 5.46V to pins 1 and 4 (where pin 4 is ground common).
Comparing the USB and mains power there is a potential difference of 0.45V to the phone. This is not something SE can fix in firmware. To fix this will require new mains chargers and new firmware across all phones. This is unlikely as it will reduce the storage capacity of the phones battery and hence reduce the standby and battery life.
USB charging to me is fine as 85% charge lasts a few days until I am back to my car charger or at home with the docking station.

Found another problem. I always have my phone on silent with the vibrate function on, has anyone else noticed that when you miss a call with silent + vibrate on, the vibrate function will keep vibrating for ages, (over half an hour last night) when you miss a call?
