Hi guys,

Thanks for all this encoding information it has been fantastic! I have a K800 and my videos are running real smooth, but when I transfer bigger video files...say 6mb or more, it takes the phone forever to open them and almost freezes, but when it finally does open them it runs smooth, all my smaller clips I have no toruble with...is this abnormal or am I gonna have to put up with this?

cheers for any help

Hi vapourmile welcome to Esato forums,

Have you tried VirtualDub-MPEG2 instead of VirtualDubMod?
http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/index.html

VirtualDub-MPEG2 is based on a newer version of VirtualDub and is far more stable, it should be able to do everything you are doing in VDmod and more, (I used to use VDmod too)

Only word of warning though, if you already have some processing settings saved you will need to remake them for VDMpeg2 as the file format was also updated,

If not doing already, for deinterlacing try 'Smart Deinterlacer' as it only deinterlaces areas that need it and doesn't alter any other picture information
http://neuron2.net/smart/smart28b1.zip

I would suggest using 64Kbps or less for your audio instead of 128Kbps as you'll save some space and shouldn't notice any audio difference, 3GP is already very poor for audio quality compared to mp4.

Just a few ideas to try.

Hi meth,
Are you trying to view your converted videos in file manager instead of K800i media player?

if already using K800i media player and still having problems, I would try SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and see if there is a firmware update for your phone,

the update service can be downloaded from
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1&pid=10407&fid=21839&esi=true

also read about updating your phone here
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=124349

let me know how you get on

That was a firmware error they fixed. Unfortunately they disabled that feature the next firmware update after the fix.

I use M3. That's all you need. Just select the K800 profile and the cropping you want. You can also set everything else you want but the standard settings in the profile are really good for most clips. If you are converting cartoons turn on "xvid cartoon mode" to get an even cleaner image. The thing that is even better with it is that it's free. There should be a link earlier in the thread for the program.

EDIT: Here is a link for it. I don't know if it's the latest but it works great. http://mike.thedt.net/temp/M3-0.8.9.8-Installer.exe

Not that I have noticed in any clips I've converted, either cartoons or movies at least. If you bump up the bitrate even more, or convert to x264 (yes, the phone supports x264 at lower bitrates) with a high bitrate it might I suppose. I recommend staying with xvid though as that allows you to use the correct resolution and a nice bitrate with a clean image while still outputting decent filesizes.
