the unit in the photo you showed --anx-- is a proto unit. that unit could have been used/abused by people who have tried c902 in all forms, ways and manners. its a good thing you raised that concern though
if you saw it in the photo, how much more the engineers who will re-evaluate c902 "in person" prior to its commercial release? i think they are in the better position to notice some lapses

after reading a few pages I decided to stay with my K850i instead of getting the C902.... SE seems to focus more in selling more phones rather than making some quality phones with little bugs (like K750i/W800i).... *sigh* ...what are they thinking?
C702 makes me recall how much I wanted the rubbery plasticky Nokia that I wanted back then, I don't remember the exact model number, but it's said to be used for harsh environment, so the phone will still power on after splashed with water, got dust, buried in dirt, thrown from a running car, or whatever stuff. it has compass, flash light, decibel meter, and many fun stuff. the bad thing is only that the phone shows monochrome screen and those ancient ringtone capability...

This alleged scratch is imo a perception fallacy among us
Arising rom the fact that C902 is built in metal casing, i came to conclude that the cratch you can see up there was not a scratch actually but a part of the general design to maintain alignment of the phone body and the slider

in fact I can see some gadgets having this kind of mechanism

Razec, that isn't a kind of "guide" for the metal part of the phone, that's A SCRATCH...and in fact in other photos (even from the last link posted) you can see many other SCRATCHES on the left covered part...
What can I say.......why Sony Ericsson had lost some market if compared to the past year? Well, look at the faults in its FLAGSHIP MODELS (K850 above all, and this BRAND NEW C902, not even into the market) and the answer it's ready......incredible........

Yes this is a scratch, but this was on proto unit. This will be fix for its release. Somebody working for SE wrote it on planete-se.net
