Apple admits iPhone supply issues (BBC article)
Apple has revealed as part of its quarterly earnings statement that it cannot produce the new iPhone 3GS fast enough.
...
The firm said in a conference call that it sold 5.2 million iPhones in the quarter, seven times more than a year earlier!

Speed
From a non-Apple PR perspective, it has a faster processor, twice the RAM, 16GB and 32GB varieties (compared to the 3G's 8GB & 16GB) a 3mpx camera, VGA video recording, an in-built compass, and a slightly different coating on the screen.
Exteriorly, it looks exactly the same.
