but what I read was that a major improvement in firmware means the R"1" will become R"2" or R"3" & so on. That means the second digit from the left has to increase. Any changes in the firmware name starting from the third digit from the left and rightward, only denotes minor fixes/ad-ons. So unless you see R2, R3, or R6 as in the P990i's case, don't expect anything that will put a big smile on your face!

Yepp, you right.
Thats why I was a bit dissapointed when the first rumor about R1C was leaked... I mean "No Digit" stepp = no added functionality.

Added functionality and the digit after the letter "R" should be stepped.
Minor fixes and its enough to stepp the letter after the digit.

Althoug this also can be... hmmm.... some exemptions on... :-/ ..but then it's not correctly done.

Hi guys, as far as this firmware (R1CA037) is concerned, don't expect any major bug fixes/feature additions because a few years back when I was waiting anxiously for P990i's magical firmware that would make the phone do what it was advertised that it would do, I discovered the following. I can't remember if I read it in a cell phone mag or on this or another forum, but what I read was that a major improvement in firmware means the R"1" will become R"2" or R"3" & so on. That means the second digit from the left has to increase. Any changes in the firmware name starting from the third digit from the left and rightward, only denotes minor fixes/ad-ons. So unless you see R2, R3, or R6 as in the P990i's case, don't expect anything that will put a big smile on your face! And now, regarding a question I had posted last month regarding if the Satio U1a was still going to be produced. If anyone has an answer, it would be appreciated. I have still to hear back from SE. Thanks!

that is correct. SonyEricsson has adopted the versioning system that Ericsson use on all their products, not only phones but also AXE exchange co mponents pr radio links etc.
If we analyze the version number R1CA037

The "R" does not mean anything particular other than it's a released version. The only other letter that can exist is a "P" which stands for a not released version (P as in Preliminary)
The 1 is the major version number, i.e. version 1.
A major version change means entirely new functionality that not necessarily has to be backward compatible, i.e. a very large change of the product, for example, if they throw in Android instead of Symbian
The letters, AC, stands for the minor version number, where A is the first version, B the second, etc. until Z when we restart the counting with two chars, i.e. AA, AB, AC. Some characters don't exist, like I, O,P,R, so CA will stand for 68.
A minor version change may contain new functionality but the product is compatible with previous versions when it comes to data and hardware.
The trailing digits are a serial number or a third level version.
This versio is incremented every time the software is sent through the compiler and sent to the testing department.

So, for a product from another company than SonyEricsson, the version number would have been 1.68.37, which is not a very large increment from R1BB041 (1.45.41), but still considerable. For example, the fact that they have incremented from BB to CA, which is over 20 minor version changes, indicates that the turnaround between the design and testing has been quite intensive. This also should indicate that several bugs have been found and corrected during this process. It's not all bugs that are as obvious for the end user as some bugs discussed here.

After using this phone virtually non stop all night, all i can say is it's worse. The battery life is the same, if not worse. The phone is in what i hope is the middle of a crashing spree needing the battery taking out to get anything. The speed is the same and again if not worse. I'm using a vodafone handset and am just wandering if it's just this one or affecting everyone. Please let me know. Thanks

If BB is 45 then CA has to be 66 and not 68...
[BA(44) + 26-4(I, O, P, R) = CA(66)]

so It's now 1.66.37

BTW: R1CA037 now available for unbranded german handsets

So, we can tell it's faster, more stable, more user friendly. But I still miss a lot of functions that I had in other SE phones.
I'm not using phone too much and checking battery life. Will let know.

@dipb
4. updated to new version of RoadSync

Which version is it? On my unbranded Satio it's still 4.0032 and not the latest (for other S60 phones any way) 4.004 which adds Google Calander support.
