Just got confirmation that the HDMI-equipped PLAY units are E3 specific only and made for the single purpose of that.

There must be some reason why it hasn't been activated in the retail units. Doesn't really make sense, it's not as if it will be challenging the PS3. lol

I'm really enjoying the phone anyway but playing on the big screen would be fun.

Xperia PLAY camera mod utilises R button to take photos

Sebastian Goscik has created an app to allow Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY users to take photos or shoot video by utilising the R button as a physical shutter button. The app called Camera Mod for Xperia PLAY can be found on the Android Market.

Goscik modified Google’s stock camera app to allow the R button to be used, so everything else that you find on your current Xperia PLAY camera remains the same (apart from some minor positioning issues and increased font size). If you find it useful, then there’s also a donation version in the Android Market.

Utility allows Google Talk Video chat on Xperia PLAY

One of the big features of Android 2.3.4 is Google Talk (Gtalk) video chat. The last we heard, we may not be getting this particular update until October, but if you’re itching for this feature, then Paul O’Brien from MoDaCo has released a neat utility installer that allows you to get access right now.

This is more relevant for the Xperia PLAY than the Xperia arc (given the lack of front-facing camera), although Paul has tested it on both phones and confirms it works. Your handset will need to be rooted to run the installer and as part of the process your Google accounts will be wiped, so be prepared to set them up again on reboot. For the download link and full instructions click here.

Great stuff thanks for posting! The lack of camera button is a pain.

Also, if you haven't tried the game XPlay version of Cordy yet then do so, it's one of the best. It's on market.

The WOW-like mobile MMO Order & Chaos just hit the Android store :

Been playing it on my iPod Touch, highly addictive. There've been reports that some Xperia Play users have been able to make the game run on their phones despite the Play not being in the officially supported phones list. Could anyone confirm?
