Now after some updates (either my phone or my Laptop), quick share became unstable too... so conclusion is that it is not android 17, but either of the software's having issues. It was similar issue prior to Android 17 update as well.

It’s not Android 17 itself, but the fact that iOS compatibility was introduced starting with Android 17—specifically via Wi-Fi Direct. It is a well-known fact that Quick Share has never been particularly stable.

The September Google Play system update came out this morning. It’s early—usually, for the Xperia series, it arrives at the end of the month following the release month. Did it fix Quick Share? NO))))

They tweaked the Quick Share interface a bit today when sharing, and it seems to be working better.

Which models does this apply to?
Neither my Japanese nor my EU 1 VIII has received an update today. I checked 3 minutes ago.

Seems to solve camera photo storing to micro SD card after shot.
Also, guess they've working on this upgrade.

The bootloop seems to be related to the A17 update with a UI bug of some sort. The XDA user said it had to do with pulling down the notification pane and/or adjusting the volume because doing so would crash some system UI thing.
I asked if their unit is stock or custom modded. we'll see what they say.
I don't think this would be anything like the 1m7, which was a manufacturing defect at the hardware level.
This seems more like a niche occurrence. but I was curious if anybody else was experiencing anything.
I'm on A17, and so far I haven't had any issues.
That's awesome that it's working flawlessly for you! Could you help me figure out what's going on with my setup by comparing it to yours? I'm hitting a really weird bug on my end.
If you have a couple of minutes, could you check a few details for me?
1. PC Setup: Are you running Windows 10 or 11? Also, how do you have the visibility configured in the Quick Share app on your PC? (Is it set to Everyone or Receive from your devices?)
2. The "Wi-Fi Off" Test: If you go to your Gallery, select a photo, and hit Share > Quick Share while your phone's Wi-Fi toggle is completely turned off (leaving only Bluetooth on)... does it instantly find your PC?
3. Wi-Fi Toggle Behavior: The exact moment you tap on your PC to send the file, do you notice if your phone's Wi-Fi toggle stays off, or does it automatically flip back on in the background? Does the transfer start immediately or does it lag for a second?
4. Speed: How long does it take to send a standard 2MB photo? Is it split-second fast or does it take a few seconds to kick in?
I'm just trying to pinpoint if Android 17 manages the radio chips differently depending on the phone brand or the Windows build. Thanks a ton if you can test this out!
Sorry for the late reply. These are my answers:
1. I'm running windows 11. I set visibility to everyone for 10 minutes.
2. To send file from the phone to my PC, I need the wifi. If I turn off the wifi, the phone will not see my PC. The phone can see my tablet but not my PC. Once the wifi is turned on, then only I can see the PC.
3. From PC, if I send the file while my phone's wifi is off, I can still see my phone and I can send the file. The wifi stays off. The transfer start instantly.
4. I'm sending a 2.8MB photo and it took about 1 second to reach my phone.

Thanks for the details. It seems the situation has improved following the latest updates—including Google Play Services, Google Play system updates, and the monthly update released yesterday with the September patches. I have a few observations:
1) Even though Quick Share has been updated several times, the option to disable sharing with iOS (found in Samsung versions) still hasn't been added. Having this option would prevent the Wi-Fi from turning off when sending a file from the phone to the PC—which is the scenario we're discussing here, as sending from Xperia to PC is the issue (the reverse direction almost always works because the PC's Wi-Fi is constantly on). Currently, the Wi-Fi drops to establish a potential Wi-Fi Direct connection with iOS (a process requiring the phone's Wi-Fi to be disconnected from any network), and due to the delay in reconnecting, the transfer ends up starting in Bluetooth-only mode.
2) I keep visibility set to "Your devices" on both the PC and the phone. Changing it to "Everyone" or "Everyone for 10 minutes" sometimes makes the transfer easier, but that isn't how it's supposed to work. Sometimes, simply switching from one mode to another is what "unblocks" the transfer.
