I'm not in favour of completely banning smoking in public places, but I do think that there is a need for better regulation. I don't see why there can't be separate sections in pubs and restaurants for smokers and non-smokers, and most restaurants already operate on this principle.
my opinion too

At last we agree on something!
@Vlamm
To be realistic, people will not give up smoking because a law forbids them to smoke in public, all it will do is cause people to be anti-social.

i wasn't arguing with that... I was merely highlighting the 'reasoning' behind it

Your reasoning is sound, but at the same time one could also make the point that if someone is applying for a bar job then they should expect smokers in the place; that sounds pretty reasonable to me.

you argue for the sake of arguing.
it is not MY reasoning, it is our (and others) government's reasoning. It is why they implemented this law.
I gave you no opinion on it, nor will I.

When I said 'your reasoning' I was not trying to imply that you are solely responsible for the idea, just that you were making the point in this thread, whether you are for or against it. I am not arguing on this subject as I have actually very little interest in it, although it is an interesting issue to debate. I think that we will just have to get used to it because it looks like it will eventually come into force throughout the EU.
I apologise if I caused any offence.

I think that almost everyone who works in bar is a smoker. ;-) Next week we have the elections to EU. Only 29 percent of population in my country consider to take part in the election. How does it look in your countries? :-)

@boto43
It's a similar figure in the UK; most people here don't care very much about the European elections.

They need to make the European parliament much simpler and easier to understand, there are so many elections in the UK already that may people become completely uninterested in voting in another one. Currently we have:
The General Election
Local Council Elections
European Elections
Scottish Parliament Elections (in Scotland)
Welsh Assembly Elections (in Wales)
Northern Irish Assembly Elections (in Northern Ireland, when it hasn't been suspended)
London Mayoral Elections (in London)
There are proposals for the House of Lords to be abolished and for the second chamber to be elected, so that would mean yet more elections. Democracy needs to be simplified; people are becoming ever more disinterested in my opinion.
