they need to work on their delays

What delays?
It isn't even 4th quarter yet. They're still on schedule.

It will be 4th quarter if this releases in October - as opposed to the infamous "second half" release date. You can argue it's technically on target, but this is still disappointing in the context of the competition (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Iphone 3G, Samsung Omnia) all available much sooner.

The question has to be, why announce a phone in February that you aren't capable of bringing to market for another 8 months? Why not just sit tight and announce it in July or August, with a firmer release date, and perhaps deflect some attention away from the competition.

In effect, all they've done is promote the idea of a good WM phone to a lot of people that might not ordinarily consider one, and then left HTC and similar to reap the benefit in their continued absence.

I think they announced it so early to build up a huge demand for the X1. You have to agree that there is unprecendted anticipation for the X1. During this 8 months of waiting, the best any other company has done is match the X1 hardware...no one has exceeded it as of today. And given the fact that SE is putting focus on the software/panels side (the most important side IMO) gives it a potential edge market-wise over other WM offerings (as I stated a few posts ago). While X1 doesn't have that "Apple" buzz, it's buzz certainly is greater than it's WM competition (in the non-smartphone-geek world). The TouchPro/Diamond/Omnia would have existed whether the X1 was announced or not.

People who really want an X1 will get the X1. The impatient will get the "competition's" devices, for now, only to get the X1 when it is finally released. Maybe a small few of the impatient will be completely satisfied with the competition's devices and stick with them. A larger percentage of the impatient will still secretly lust for the X1 and end up getting one

I'm sure SE has something in store for the upcoming WM7 era too.

No, I don't - there was anticipation for the Touch Pro and Touch Diamond, massive anticipation for the Iphone, and right now there's a lot of anticipation for Android, but I'm really not seeing any great interest in the X1 outside those same "smartphone geeks" you keep trying to distance it from. This isn't a breakthrough device yet by any means.

Many would say the Iphone has. Many would argue the Omnia has too (it has a faster, and generally more respected processor inside it). Even 8 months ago, there really wasn't anything that amazing about the X1's hardware, it's a predictable evolution of HTC's platform from last year, nothing remotely revolutionary.

And given the fact that SE is putting focus on the software/panels side (the most important side IMO) gives it a potential edge market-wise over other WM offerings (as I stated a few posts ago). It has more of a buzz amongst SE fans, for fairly obvious reasons, but I don't believe it's made any leap towards the "non-smartphone-geek world". You do know that you're a smartphone geek, right? To be fair, whatever "buzz" the X1 has, has to be balanced against the frustration at the delays, and the general whiff of FAIL. The whole debacle at the IFA was a massive embarrassment, it's no surprise that SE have gone on a PR offensive about the phone now.

The TouchPro/Diamond/Omnia would have existed whether the X1 was announced or not.

So perhaps the X1 could have been, you know, better? More competitive?

People who really want an X1 will get the X1. The impatient will get the "competition's" devices, for now, only to get the X1 when it is finally released.

Sorry, but that is absolute fantasy. If people who were interested in the X1 initially are now investing in Touch Pros, or Omnias, or Iphones, then those are lost customers, full stop. Maybe they'll come back for the X2 some day, but the idea that a Touch Pro owner is going to take the financial hit on swapping for an X1 in order to get virtually the same device, is just pure fantasy.

Maybe a small few of the impatient will be completely satisfied with the competition's devices and stick with them. A larger percentage of the impatient will still secretly lust for the X1 and end up getting one

The X1 simply isn't the object of lust you want it to be, I'm sorry. It's a smart looking WM phone, but that's it.

Well @Boinng, I respect your opinions.......don't agree with them, but, respect them

You do know that you're a smartphone geek, right?

Almost, but not quite. I'm going to crown aksd as smartphone-geek-supreme
I don't consider myself as deep into it as him and some others. Once I get the X1, I'll probably disappear from around here until I'm ready to buy my next killer phone a year (or probably more) later. Though I like the do-it-all phones, I'm not that deep into the chipsets and OpenGL support and what have you...I'm more intersted in the overall final product than its internal particulars (though I want top hardware). Call me a hybrid geek/mainstream-consumer.

As at now, has it been confirmed whether the X1 has or has not an accelerometer?

No. I think it's pretty safe to say it hasn't.

The thing is though, just the very fact you're posting on a forum about this at all makes you much, much more of a geek than the average consumer that SE might wish to aim this at. That's not a criticism, obviously I'm a complete geek myself, but again I'm coming from a current WM phone and am not that interested in the X1.

I would say, WM is a great, geeky, and tweakable platform, and the chances of you getting this phone (or any decent WM phone) and not posting anywhere again are pretty slim. I'm sure the X1 will end up with its own forum here if it's any kind of success, and you'll be discussing the latest WM software, firmware tweaks, and all the rest of it till the cows come home (if not here, you're bound to find a new home on XDA Devs, Modaco or elsewhere). To get the best out of any WM phone, the X1 included, you won't be able to resist keeping up to date... to be honest, it's a waste of a phone if you don't
