It seems like a hardware issue, take it to a Sony repair center or back to the store

@shotokan81,

I don't have any heat issues with my Z1. The phone hardly getting hot. Maybe the temperature goes up around 1-2 degree Celsius, but it is not hot. I think, my Z is hotter than this. Therefore I don't think there is a design problem.

@admad,

I've just tested recording more than 15 minutes video and there is no overheating. The phone is not getting very hot, perhaps only 1 or 2 degree Celsius increase, but definitely comfortable.

5 photos uploaded, cloudy, almost foggy conditions, 8 vs 20mp shots

@sponse

how did you get the high ISOs? I can only go up to 3200 in manual 8mp mode, and next, how about the exposure time? I checked the various scene options and none give me selection for exposure time.

You select high sensitivity in scene mode for super high iso.

As for the shutter speed, you can't control it directly but what can you do
is play around with the iso values.
Higher the iso is faster the shutter speed would be.
Lower the iso is the more time the shutter remains open in low light.

could be my imagination but I am starting to think my screen is getting a yellow hue over time

I was gaming today and my phone got quite hot - is this a panel glue issue brought on by heat

hmmmmm

now I'm really confused - my screen today is so white and bright that it was hurting my eyes to look at it first thing this morning - it definitely was not like that last night when I posted the above post

Vikeviki, it seems you are not alone with the overheating issue.

See this link from the sony mobile website:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5[....]RIA-z1-getting-hot/td-p/386739

I also saw similar feedback on Japanese websites from people who tested display models.

There are two hypothesis:
- A firmware problem (a bug)
- A design problem (hardware)

In case it is a firmware bug, it would be good that Sony communicates on it, and confirms it is a firmware problem.
So people would be angry, but not completely mad as if it is a hardware problem.
It would be even better that phone makers releases phones after they are ready.

If this is a design problem (the longer Sony waits to communicate, the more likely i will suspect it is), then they will not be able to fix it easilly. In this case, my guess would be: it was too ambitious to pack a snapdragon 800 in a water and dust proof thin glass box. A fix could be to underclock the s800 (or set the limit lower) to make it more similar to a s4 or s600 heat wise. But this may not fix the part due to the thin glass casing and would come at the expense of performance.

With the screen lottery and uneven parts assembly, I will wait and see a little more...

Moogoo and all, what is your experience, did you experience heat issues?

my phone gets hot but I expect it to get hot when considering the hardware inside - it does not get hot were I can't touch it, the reality is we are dealing with a high performance device - I have heard many times people getting alarmed when the phone does this but trying to tell them is is normal doesn't seem to work

why is it that we as owners of the Z1 are able to take much better quality pictures that we see in many reviews, that is a real puzzle to me

Because when the users get the phone, they spend more quality time getting used to it and learning to taking better pictures. Its the same story every time a high end cameraphone is released.

Im never impressed by a phones camera usually until its been out a month or two, unless its a pureview device.
