Well if hardware can't code the higher definition video then maybe software could? Because when in preview then it has high framerate (when not auto-adjusting brightness and stuff, but that could be turned off for vids). I don't know on how good quality it shows the preview but it is certainly 320x240, I would say even more (like 640x480). And if it can preview it in real-time (25frames for sure (again, while not auto adjusting)) then why couldn't it record it as well? If codec is eating lot of cpu and ram, then maybe make it save without codec? Like RAW? Then you may need 2gb memory card to record like 5min, but still. If hardware doesn't allow this, then how about making a program that does it? Like taking a picture and coding is manually. I have seen lots of programs that use the camera, and they are also showing the higher definition in real time.
