Heaven only knows which segment of the market Nokia was appealing to with that layout, Wanksta. The phone has some redeeming qualities, but i certainly wouldn't like to see that layout in subsequent models. I can't honestly think of a single Nokia user i know who actually likes that layout. What prompted you to get that phone in the first place? This message was posted from a Nokia

MrSmith, what's the signal strength like in Oudtshoorn? Heading that way tomorrow to go do some cave exploration :-) Last visited the Caves in '91 , so i'm quite looking forward to it. This message was posted from a Nokia

@ Kryptik,
I've explained this on the forum in the past, but put simply: Price. (With a capital P indeed!)
In October 2004,the dedicated 3G network here, called 3,had a massive special on,in conjunction with the Carphonewarehouse stores.
It was a whole £29.99, yes that's right, if you bought the obligatory £15 airtime with it...!3G,Bluetooth,camera and video.Need I say more?

Actually, this special was limited to 2 per customer.
Oh,and they were completely sold out within 2 days.No surprise.
There was such a backlog that although I ordered mine online on the very first day of the sale, I only received mine about 2 or 3 weeks' later.
I then had it unlocked and had to have it flashed,to access the hidden menus restricted by some of the 3 software.
After that,it has not given me one day's trouble, and has been the most reliable Blokia that I have owned to date.
The keypad layout looks funky, but try sms with one hand...

@ Kryptik,
Do you mean '3' network branding on the K700?
If this is so,then some people have plonked a 3 sticker on themselves, because '3' only have 3G handsets,as their name implies, thus have never stocked any non-3G handsets.

Funny enough, apart from the NEC range of phones they carry in their inventory, there are only a few models from other manufacturers with any 3 branding, although all are locked to the network, initially anyway.
The 7600 certainly never had any branding on the handset itself either.

Hi All

Been reading this thread on and off for quite some time now, I want to know if and when SA will be getting the W800i and if so how different will the pricing be from the 750i?

Also, how come only Vodacom have the 750i and not MTN? I am with Nashua Mobile and they don't have the 750i on MTN yet, this concerns me as I am due for an upgrade in Dec and WANT the W800i!!!

Thanks for the thread.

Ciao

Welcome to Scotty... We're due to get the W800i soon...at least it will be available when you're due for an upgrade. The reason why Vodacom have the K750 is all due to branding...SE will provide them with the phones first because it makes economic sense...Tahir has explained it here before why Vodacom get handsets first...catch tho is that most of their handsets are brande in Vodafone red... Cell C's also offering the K750. Honestly I don't know what's up with MTN...they might be waiting for stock. This message was posted from a K700i
