The N1 and desire use the clearpad 2000 touch sensor which supports dual touch but not multitouch. BTW this will be forum #3 I registered for because of this handset.... Figured I might as well contribute something after following this for so long.

hmm... i think you guys are missing the point. DUAL touch vs. MULTI-TOUCH. does Nexus One or Desire support multi-touch? (i.e., 3 or more simultaneous finger touch recognition). As Arne said, we should ask if the X10 supports at least dual-touch (i.e., recognizes one or two fingers touching simultaneously). If so, then it should be on par with other android offerings.

In reality though, how many of you are actually using more than 2 fingers to use your phone anyway? Multi-touch seems to be a waste, unless those of you out there are that much more dexterous than me.

Fair point. However, that distinction is splitting hairs in my opinion. I just want people to be aware of this before ponying up LARGE amounts of cash. Personally, I can get past the other flaws, but IF dual/multi touch is not at the very least implemented in hardware, there is no reason for me to get the X10.

The apparent deceit SE is engaging in is what really bothers me. Failing to clarify this issue before launch is really unfair to it's customers.

what's this about deceit? when did SE ever advertise or claim that the X10 was multi-touch or will be multi-touch? This was based on assumptions and rumor. And just like crabman said.. N1 and desire are only dual-touch. NOT multi-touch... so i guess google and HTC are deceivers too? hmmm...

Multi-touch or not, dual-touch or not...as long as you're happy with your purchase, then who would want to argue.

According to a comment, the X10 has no HW multitouch support. If this is true... Wow!

Same limitations seem to apply to all Androide devices including Nexus One and Desire. They all seem to support dual touch HW wise rather than MT. The question still unanswered is whether X10 supports dual touch HW wise.

Skogberg:
Regarding the discussion around dual/multi touch. I would definitely expect someone to tell me in that confirmation if it would be dual-touch. So expect it to be single touch only – sorry.

No >1-touch? Welp. Looks like I'm gonna go get the Nexus One then. So much for rabidly checking up on the X10. IMO, it's a classic case of Sony Ericsson scuttling their own product yet again. I've been pretty nuts about SE products but I'm also sick of them not being forthright about their specs and release dates and whatever.
