This is basically the plan that one of my employees came up with...... seeing as leeches eat bandwidth, use logos and ringtones etc. but generally are not large partakers in the forum, and are not really worth worrying about in terms of scaring away, why not, after splitting the site into two, as stated in the above post, have 1 free forum site, and one, monthly/yearly fee site with all the downloadables, this way over the first few months, it would be possible to have an estimated guess as to, what price would keep the site alive, but would not shun anyone seeking help or advise from the forum site, or those who feel that the content on 'Esatwo.com' (I know poor, but we thought it was funny, and it's available) the logo/tones site was worth a few bucks. You might even turn this site into a profit making organisation (perish the thought)

I am Just writing to say that I have made a $20 donation via paypal, I use this site mainly for logo`s to make my T68 look COOL, and for it to close would be great shame, Also I would never have know about the software upgrade for my T68 if it wasn`t for ESATO and its users. So keep up the good work...

Question:
I am part of an online community based around
ericsson and sony ericsson phones,
http://www.esato.com, the forum
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=15283&forum=19&start=0
states that this community is under serious threat due to lack of funding.
I believe it is providing a valuable service to ericsson and sony ericsson
customers, providing support for the products and actively advertising to
non S.E. customers. I believe it would be in the interests of yourselves
and our community if you could offer some support.
Many Thanks
Tommie Nordholm

Total contributed per 12th is $830. Plus whatever the Philippines are collecting in the EB meeting in end of December. The banners are of course bringing in some money, but the date when the pay for advertising is not before end of January. So this will not help Esato in the short term.
I'm not sure if it is legal to send cash by postal mail, but I have received donations this way too. It's fine with me, but I'm not sure if it is OK with the postal service.
@fernando
I will consider adding a counter to the homepage. I'll see if I've got some spare time to make one.
@jamiescott
I have been thinking of splitting the site in two. Something howardchui has done to his site. But because many visitors using search engines find this site with search keyword like "T68i themes", "free ericsson logos"
This rather large page shows how people find this site from Google today. What I am trying to say is that many people find Esato because they search for themes, logos etc. and then finally ends up in the forum.
The issue about increase of sales is not the only reason why
should support Esato. I guess it is costing
a lot have 24/7 support department up and running. Would you rather send
a mail about your Jabra headset/T68i connection problem to
or write/read a post here on Esato?
support only their own products, while Esato cover a wider range of devices. Your question about decrease in spending could be tuned the other way around. Will
see an increase in spending if Esato dies. I would have to say yes. Maybe tot much, but more than it will cost them to support the site.
@parvski
Your idea about creating a comprehensive FAQ, or a single document holding all the answers is something we moderators has been discussing before. But my experience is that new members don't search before they post. They don't even read the FAQ. You should see the number of emails I receive every day about very simple issues. Many of them could be avoided if people read the FAQ before mailing me. And the job to go through the 15216 topics and categorize these is huge.

I know this is the wrong forum, but as the question about new members came up...
Would it be possible to have some kind of ranking system? Firstly to make sure that you have been posting in other forums a few times (say 5) before you are allowed to initiate a new thread, this would decrease the number of "stupid" threads a bit...
Secondly, if the members would get some ranking, say from Guru to Complete dork (Hulk Hoogan someone
). Then it would be easier to ignore less reliable posters and maybe listen more to those who have something valuable to contribute == less flame wars and fluff.
