i'm not a technical person, but let's say it will be launched with only 65536 colors, is it possible to have a good screen anyway? is it something else that have bigger impact on the screen quality that compensate this fact? or is this lack of color ruining the phone completely? how many colors have the iphone?

shame on SE, up until this date, they have not yet to release any phone with 16M colors. I do understand and i see their screen have been improved a lot since K750, but it is just a shame that they have not yet implement more colors on it. Nokia has been using 16M color screen since last year.

Please donwload: ColorDepths and see colors with your eyes.

I just thought of this thread when some members started complaining about the X10 screen

No that's the difference... look at the sky ....

So for you wondering does it matter if screen is 65k or 262k colors? The answer is YES !

Let me clarify this:
1) 65k colors means 16 bit colors, and this is made using 32 Red colors, 64 Green and 32 Blue (2^5=32, 2^6=64, 5+6+5=16 bits, 32x64x32=65536 colors)
2) 262k (18 bit) colors are made using 2^6 colors in every three channel. (2^6=64, 64x64x64=262144)
So in 16 bit system green has 2^6 different tone as human eye is most sensitive to green color. So with 65k colors you have in fact just as good green as with 262k colors. Only the red and blue is problematic. That's why the blue-ish problem in x10 screen !

@sealover94: what's the difference? The images?

Both comparisons are trying to make it clear how the images look like when the screens have those different colours. So don't say there are no difference. The blue sky in your pic works as the orange-ish sunset in the quote I made.

Guys.. just ask yourself! 90% of us have mobiles with 256k or even more . who wants to pay 600+ euros and get less colors for his new 2010 phone??i paid 700 euros in 2004 and get p800 to move from 256 > 4096(best available back then!) and p990 in 2007 to have 256k ... and now what ?? go back to 65k in 2010???

I think its a very good phone.

What i also think is people on this thread seem to think this phone is aimed at being the top dog in the mobile phone world. From the specs alone, clearly SE have no intention of making it so.

EDIT: i think those comparisons make it a little hard for some people to see the difference. So heres my quick demo.

Btw, ive over exaggerated the colour seperations just as a demo. None of these images represent the true colour depth of each image. Its just for a bit of fun:

16 million colours

The above image looks fine

262k colours

The above image shows less true colour detail

65k colours

65k screen shows obvious colour blending

4096 colours

Its like 2002 all over again with 4096 colours !

Hope my *fake* comparison makes it a bit easier !
