XZ2/Compact using 5MP coz the bezels were shrinked to maximum and the 5MP camera module is extremely tiny.....

Sensor is IMX241-variant, made by LG Innotek and Chicony...

Bezel of XZ2 does not seem to be smaller than XA2 or L2.
Both have 8MP 1/4".

S8 has less bezel with 8MP 1/4".

For outdoors videos it is enough. Photos too.
But indoor and night situations it is not.
Bad for those who like video calls.

Oh please. I'm not even bashing you or defending Sony here. But, I can see that the top and bottom bezels of XZ2 are way smaller than the ones on XA2 and L2. Yes, they could remove the Sony logo and make the bottom bezel smaller, so they could put a better front cam by increasing the top bezel. Although, there must be something that keeps them away from doing that.

The downgraded front camera inside XZ2 is fine. Not good, but just fine. Yup, not a standout, though. They could bring Autofocus and everything will be much better.

------------

Oh, and Engadget gives XZ2 Compact a solid 90. But, XZ2 inly gets 84. I get it, the small size with mighty performance of the XZ2c might be a deal breaker for some, but I think its monotonous, less good-looking (well, bad) design on its rear side keeps me away from liking it.

Anyone want to take a guess at how long it'll be until we get front facing cameras that're behind the phone display? I recall Sony having some patents for that years ago, and with things like in-screen FPS, I'm wondering how close we are to that. I imagine OLED displays are a necessity for that to work at the very least.

Anyways, that aside I agree in the theory that the XZ2 was neutered in some respects to make the Premium model seem that much better. With the XZ2 Sony took several steps in rectifying major complaints people have had with their phones over the years. We can only hope that they continue that trend going forward. At least the camera department seems to be next on their list of things to address.

With Huawei now adding a 3rd camera to the rear of its smartphones does anyone know of total sensor size all 3 take up?

Reason why I'm asking is, would you rather prefer a dual/triple sensor layout or one really larger sensor maybe even 1" in size like the in the RX 100 lll. No idea if it would be possible but surely 3 sensors must take up a fair amount of space to the point where a 1" could be squeezed in.

EDIT - turns out Panasonic already done this back in 2014nwith a phone as tall and as wide as the XZ2 compact.

One of the biggest issues with larger sensors like 1 inch is that it requires longer focal point, with regular phones this is hard, that's why that Panasonic has a mechanical lens that opens out to make the lens in the correct focal length with the sensor.

@spek
No the top bezel is big enough for better sensor. S9 and others are good example of that. Please stop being another Nodar and trying to stitch info together to make it more credible

What did u said???

On the outside, the camera lens is small and u might judge, well they can fit bigger sensor in there. Wrong, the module itself take almost all the space..

Dont judge the book by its cover...
