can someone please tell me the difference between:pentium d, core duo and core 2 duo? Which is the best of the 3?
Ill start off with pentium d,its nothing but two pentium 4's glued to one package. Its a 'dual core' but as i said its glued and it was a rush job.
and its based on old netburst m-architecture with longer pipelines for higher clocks.Old story,so im not talking about it too much.you know how bad intel lost to amd with netburst .Its clcok were like 2.4-3.8Ghz (prescott).
Core duo is the successor of pentium M,the uP for notebooks, its highly successfull and its a true dual core uP unlike P D.It has a 2Mb l2 and gives a very nice performance per clock,it beats amd at same clock. It has very low power consumption. Its clock speeds were much less unlike netburst,it uses shorter pipelines. So clocks were like 1.5-2.2Ghz.but with its low clocks it was able to beat flagship pentium extreme edition is several benches and tests. The main constraint of core was its slow FSB,only533Mhz.
Core 2 duo is the sucessor of Core duo and it replaces netburst, but it comes for laptops, destops and servers unlike core duo.Its modified heavily, added new features to increase performance and keep power consumption down.
and should i say more, its the king atm in desktop's . It has slightly higher clocks than core duo,so it clocks from 1.8-2.93Ghz (atm). There are two versions for desktop,E4300-E6400 features 2Mb of l2 cache while E6600-X6800 (extreme edition,x6800) features 4Mb cache ,now the fsb has increased to 1066Mhz for desktop's and 1333Mhz for servers.
If you are to buy one, well, you already read my opinion.
