^^ I'd say dual core with a very powerful GPUs are the
future
applications are now starting to harness the superior computing muscle of GPU shaders, in desktops an Intel i7 CPU (without expansion graphics card) can be easily outmatched by a tenfold cheaper AMD A10 APU in gaming and GPGPU, as we all know, GPGPU is the future of computing
GPUs is better than CPU on the following
transcode videos
render textures
calculating in-game physics
audio decoding
encryption and compression
video processing and enhancement
games would suck without GPUs
take a look at this:
http://news.softpedia.com/new[....]ficial-Benchmarks-285487.shtml
now why go for quad core and waste battery when a manufacturer can instead focus on improving GPU performance with that power consumption allocation supposedly to be occupied by the 2 extra cores?

@razec
While I agree with to an extent, I also think you forget that as we move along quad-core processors will eventually consume battery much more efficiently.
Not too long ago people lamented the poor battery standby times on dual-core processors but not anymore.
The same argument you are using regarding dual-cores and GPU also applies on quad-cores when they are being improved.

Yes. A dual core with a latest GPU is better than a quad core
While on that subject,take a look at this too...

I was going through some of SE's older models yesterday (some of you may know why

) and I started wondering why they aren't as inventive with their designs any more, having in mind what Mint and Hayabusa look like. I mean, just have a look at some of the feature phones:

Notice the use of aluminium, sturdy/matte plastic and a variety of elements and accents. I think they might be taking minimalism too far and treading into Samsungy blandness.

^Here's a more extensive view of phones from Sony Ericsson to Sony Mobile (from GSMArena.com):
Judge for yourselves.
And I'm sorry for the heavy pictures.

Yes, YES,
YES! EXACTLY! That's why I love the old SE phones and the 2011 Xperias. "variety of elements and accents" - that's the key here! As I said, the 2012 Xperias are just way too simple black bricks, they have nothing distinctive, unlike the older models. Even the Galaxy S3 is better for that matter ( you know - the round shape and the button with strange shape in the middle ). Not to mention the Motorola or Lumia ( I already posted some pics in the other thread ). That's one of the things I hate in Sony - the boring design. Remember the good old times:
VS
You see? Sony has never ever been good in design. I can even see the shadow of my Xperia Pro in that T68!

@Dups, yeah you're right, but given the choice I'd rather tell SoC companies to concentrate further on GPUs rather than CPUs instead. imagine the extra space for the 2 core to be allocated instead for the GPU, that'll be a much better decision imho
@NightBlade
I won't blame samsung for that, Apple is to blame here, they have huge followers, and anything Jobs would want to show on an apple Expo becomes hit, no matter how uninspiring it looks design wise. Samsung simply copied Apple's design idea not because they think it's better than their own headturning designs but because Samsung's target audience have already fell in love for iPhones. and it's not just samsung and Sony, every one in the mobile phone business now trails Apple's idea. It's ridiculous imho, people need to wake up

I actually don't mind (read: like a lot) the Xperia S design, because, minimalist as it is, it's fresh. They hadn't taken minimalism to that point before.
However, they're taking it a bit too far now. The tipo, go, miro and sola all have the same bland look. The acro S is just boring. The only redeeming feature of the Ion is the metal back and of Mint and Hayabusa - the concave back.

So true ^_^ mate. I missed the days of dual front designs, clamshells, sliders that looks like a camera at the back!

I love the sola's dual-plane design!
