920

808, that is full auto.. I am 100% sure that the 808 can produce a better photograph than this with a bit of manual input.

The 920 hit the right exposure. How would you do it on the 808?
Boost the ISO? Slower SS?

I don't get it why we haven't got one right comparison yet!!
Not one single comparison that is right!!

We only got both phones on auto! But weaking with the phones in any of these comparisons and comparing them to the auto captures.
Neither the AAS did it nor the PureView club! Why? It's beyond me!

I wish I had an 808!

^ Marc from the PureView club played around with the settings on the 920 to get the right exposure.. it overexposes at times, just like that shot above your post.

http://pureviewclub.com/2012/7483

"It looks like the place is exploding with light! Since this proved to be a bit too much, I changed the settings of the Lumia 920 to capture a bit less light – putting the exposure value on -1. Than you already get a much better result – and more true to reality, not as “yellowish” as in the first attempt with the Nokia 808."

He has the -1 exposure value posted as well, it looks much better than the auto mode shot.

Those photos still don't tell much!

He didn't tweak with the 808 although he had it on creative mode. And didn't tweak with the 920! Playing the exposure compensation is really tweaking.

He could get to night mode where the Lumia hits a whole of 1 second SS, and lower the ISO manually if the Lumia doesn't do it itself or if i doesn't go up to 1 second.
This would be the full potential of the 920!

Instead of having 1/3s and 800 ISO, have 1 sec an 200 ISO..

Then, in some of those photos, the lighting is very tricky that no camera would get it right without tweaking. The 808 and other smartphones underexpose in these low tricky light situations anyway.. And in other moderate tricky light situations all cameras need tweaking. Mainly adjusting the white balance and the exposure.

As to the overexposure thingy with the 920, these are not overexposed per se!
It depends what one needs from those photos.

Night photography is a very tricky and complicated field in photography! And one always has to go for a compromise! One can't get it all at night! Well unless one uses HDR but even this method has its big limitations, specially at night.
So the photographer really needs to know what he's going for.

But anyway, for a smartphone it's just about some point and shoot photo at the end. No need to go all pro here. The settings are very limited despite the 920's longer exposures..

I'll be getting my 920 next week. Hopefully on Monday or Tuesday. Can't wait to test and push it to its full potential.

All that comparing leads to nothing. Sometimes you can get rid of that yellow by moving your camera one inch. I regular get two total different shots even if I take them right after eachother. I know I'm not much of a photographer but I do know that every camera needs to be treated different to get the most out of it. With my SE phones I always had it on Macro, even for long distance shots. I have a Nokia now and noticed that Macro only works at around 50cm.

More daytime and close up from Marc here:

Here is a nice set of low light shots:

The flash was used couple of times, it seems bright for an LED, but still way off the benchmark.
