That's internet myth, resolution has almost nothing to do with battery life. Pixels don't consume any power. LCD display is backlit, power consumption depends on display's size and brightness.

Maybe Sony is going for differentiation? HD for the Compact, FHD for the main and QHD for the Ultra.
And FHD in a midranger?
Refreshing the screen and processor speed is always used up by the screen which has more pixels.

The additional drain from the processor is neigligible. You may get 10 min better screen-on-time at most, probably less.
Then explain why z3c has great battery life

if that's the only major consumer, then displaying static picture should save lots of power...

^^It looks like there's quite a lot of shakiness (look at the bottom) from either OIS or autofocus.

With higher resolution transistors are smaller so they need less energy.

Size. In this case size really matters.

Well not really. The image may be static but the pixels are still being refreshed constantly, even if the pixels are displaying the same colours. That's how I understand it.
However, the Z3 and Compact
caches static images on the display, which avoids the need for refreshing. This is how they attain their two day battery life.
Isn't the new Japanese Xperia A4 brandishing a whopping three-day battery life? I can see this coming to the Z5C. Hopefully.

Most IPS displays are not refreshing if they don't need to.
A4 is nothing but Z3 Compact with plastic back panel. Z5C is going to have much worse battery life because of power hungry SD810 processor.

it's interesting he didnt called it as ultra , while s60 is z5 compact , they named 5,5 inch device s70+ instead of s80. i wonder about if it's chipset will be sd820 or another....

He replied to the person asking about Z5 Ultra. Guess Sony is taking the Apple approach. Would have been better if they could have squeezed a 6 inch display in a more compact chassis.

They need to make a new 6" Z ultra with the same dimension as the C5 U, early next quarter with S820.
