UX is a term we designers use as an acronym for User Experience.

Code name: Rachael
Proposed name for marketing: Nexus
Final name: Timescape & mediascape.

As much as I hate to say it, Boinng's lack of awareness is actually funnier than Eric Cartman shoving food up his ass.

iPhone is an OS and a platform

Que? I thought you iTypes preferred to call the operating system OS X even though it doesn't look squat like the real McCoy.

For the rest of us, iPhone OS is the OS, iPhone is the phone. And the name has stuck on for three gens even though the hardware changed. End of.

the lack of any significant fragmentation

I'm sure all those iPhone 2G owners who're recording tonnes of videos with their phones would agree with you.

Again, you're wrong - the Nexus One has already seen "updates from Android that are really based on multitouch and require it" - they just won't be coming to the X10.

If you would've read my post carefully, you'd have known that I was talking about the platform itself. You are only talking about some features in the platform.

At the very least, that will soon mean few if any games for the X10. Naturally that won't be a problem for anyone here, all of whom carry their PS3 everywhere, but it'll be a bummer for everyone else.

Take a quick look in the Android Market. You'll see there are plenty of games supported by the X10. It's a pity that some new games won't be supported, but a reason to buy another phone? Nope! We're not yet in that era that phones apart from the iPhone are major gaming devices and as long as the X10 is on the market we won't be.

I think you're wrong. More to the point, I think the chances of Android 3 running well or running any apps on the X10 are pretty much zero.

Maybe, but if it won't run well on the X10, it won't run well on the Desire or Nexus One either. We can't really commend on that matter, but you can't say it's a negative of the X10 compared to the rest of the market.

Not in the same way - the N1 and the Desire might be a little slower than contemporary phones, but they'll still run all the apps. They still run all the games. They'll still do everything that's expected of an Android phone. The X10 won't, simple as that.

That's not the same thing as the user experience. The core user experience is the interface and the core apps. Not some third party app that will come out somewhere in the future.

And to be honest, that's pretty much why I find your opinion on this fairly unconvincing - at the end of the day you don't really care how this phone fares full time, and you've probably only a little idea of what it's like to be saddled with a two year contract on a smartphone that's out of date after six months. For most actual, real, people, this phone will be a significant investment in both time and money - and I think those people will end up quite disappointed with SE over this.

Oh, yes I have. I've been doing reviewing only one and a half year now and before that I was just an 'actual real person'. And no, I can't fully command on how the phone will last in a few years. But that's the case for all of us, for you too, and doesn't have much to do with multitouch.

UX is the name that SE have been using publically since the X10 was announced. For example - http://pocketnow.com/smartpho[....]l-it-make-it-to-windows-mobile

Surely you're not confusing the UI with the OS there synn? That would be embarrasing. As you probably know full well, the core OS is based on OS X and that's how it was originally marketed, but since probably the first update it's been officially and commonly known as iPhone OS.

For the rest of us, iPhone OS is the OS, iPhone is the phone. And the name has stuck on for three gens even though the hardware changed. End of.

We've had three iPhones, with three different names - the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS. I realise this must be incredibly confusing for you synn; perhaps you'd better go back to watching cartoons.

I'm sure all those iPhone 2G owners who're recording tonnes of videos with their phones would agree with you.

Yep, at least the ones who paid 99c for the iVideocamera app would.

The name of OS X's UI is Aqua. the kernel is based on Unix.

me knowing more about the iKingdom than an iTard. Now THAT'S embarrassing.

So I sit here with my black X10. One thing hits me. I sync my phonebook with google and everything is ok. Now I link a facebook connection to one in the phonebook. When I do that I expect the facebook profile picture to show up in the phonebook, but it doesn't. Is it possible to have it that way?

I can't find a way to have different ring tones to different connections either.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the X10 doesn't support downloading Facebook pictures into the phonebook. When you sign into Timescape with your Facebook account, the pictures will be included there however. I don't have an X10 so I am only speculating. If you have an X10, someone correct me (if I am wrong).

Android 2.X includes this functionality, go figure.

@synn and @Boinng: please stop your arguing between you two here. we don't want to know who of the both of you is the smarter one here. Try to behave as we're discussing about the X10 and not about your IQ level.

lol you won't see me jumping in unless the iTard goes over the top with his nonsense. I'm usually content with being a silent reader and grasping the useful bits, mate. But once in a while, you gotta call a spade an iSpade.

So they're platform compatible as long as you don't need to use any features of the platform? Good job we're not splitting hairs..

Take a quick look in the Android Market. You'll see there are plenty of games supported by the X10.

And what do you think will happen to those games as soon as multitouch is widespread, and a bunch of new multitouch games arrive to compete with them? Will the developers of those games just accept that they're not going to sell anymore? No, of course not - they'll update their games to use multitouch too, where appropriate, to improve the gameplay and keep themselves top of the download charts. At which point, the pool of games available to the X10 will be much reduced (and increasingly old).

It's a pity that some new games won't be supported, but a reason to buy another phone? Nope! We're not yet in that era that phones apart from the iPhone are major gaming devices and as long as the X10 is on the market we won't be.

So basically the entire Android developer scene will be held back another year on account of the X10's shortcomings. Another proud moment for SE! I sincerely hope that isn't the case, as it's actually sadder than SE putting out yet another half-assed phone.

Maybe, but if it won't run well on the X10, it won't run well on the Desire or Nexus One either. We can't really commend on that matter, but you can't say it's a negative of the X10 compared to the rest of the market.

Yes I can; I'm not talking about speed, which will be similar across all three phones, I'm talking about the additional multitouch emphasis and interface tweaks that are going to favour the Nexus One and Desire far more than the X10.

Oh, yes I have. I've been doing reviewing only one and a half year now and before that I was just an 'actual real person'. And no, I can't fully command on how the phone will last in a few years. But that's the case for all of us, for you too, and doesn't have much to do with multitouch.

It has a lot to do with multitouch when that's a key new technology that's being rapidly implemented in the Android OS, and we're talking about a new Android phone that's physically unable to use it.
