re: purchase of PLDT (et al) NTT has right of first refusal for the sale of PLDT shares. and technicality is that PLDT can't be sold to a company with competing services (read: DIGITEL landline competes with PLDT, DIGITEL Mobile competes with Smart Communications) AFAIK

@dan: hype was on the PLDT and Boni Land sale. But with reports filtering out, wala na namang laro. We could see some weakness as political concerns (senate and now lower house arguments) will take center stage.
As to the PLDT and Boni Land sale ... it's not a done deal yet. Memorandum of Agreement pa lang. Expect the group of Pangilinan to make a last ditch effort to bid for FirsPac's 24.4% stake in PLDT.

@arnold: there are always ways to circumvent rules. Looks like th JG Group and First Pac are looking to form a holding company, where the JG Group will own 2/3. This holding company will own the 24.4% stake of First Pac.

there nothing NTT can do if fpc wants to sell their share, its fpc's share and money; i think the contract states that they shld offer NTT first, if ntt wont buy then they can sell to anybody who is interested

but tony boy cojuangco's stake at pldt is still questionable. this is what jgs is holding on. since there is still a pending case if the stake at pldt is from the ill-gotten wealth of the marcoses....
