To me this is SE simply killing a phone with great potential, it annoys me to see SOOO much potential wasted by SE not making it a full touch, whats so hard? Were they too lazy?

Like I said before, if it comes out with full touch, well and good.

I love how even the "fans" of this design are hinting and wishing it's going to change... but I don't see how they could have released review handsets without the UI fundamentals being final, do you?

You mean PREVIEW handsets.

So would they release PREVIEW handsets with a funadamentally different interface to the one planned, without explaining to any of the previewers that they intended to make significant changes before release? Genuine question. What do you think?

In the hypothetical situation that the handset gets full touch, there is no "Fundamental difference" to the UI. It looks the same, except there is now touch support across menus. The Idou and the very first WinMo 6.5 sets that the press played with had UIs that were a lot less developed than this.

As I remember; GSMArena etc. stressed (as they do with all previews) that the handset is a pre-production unit and things can change.

In one scenario I can select any item in any menu with my finger on the screen, with the slider closed. In the other scenario I can only do this in one menu, and all other menus require me to open the slider and use the directional pad. To me, that's quite a fundamental difference in the UI, but perhaps things are different on your planet.
