All you need to do is make sure that they don't change the terms and conditions giving you less time while your travelling :-D or does that only happen in the uk?

Don't know, but the amount of texts i get saying I've won x amount of money makes you think. As for the giving your number away, that could happen, as you operator may think your numbers not in use anymore.
