The really obvious difference is that the SE guy uses the phone, it's already running in his pocket at the start, he doesn't boot it up on screen like the unwired reviewer. A running phone, that's actually loaded up with user data and being used as a day to day phone, is always going to run slower than a review model that's just been rebooted, and has only been played with anyway.
Put it this way, I use a year old WinMo phone right now, and having seen all the X1 videos, I don't feel like I've seen anything new. It's just another Qualcom powered WinMo smartphone, with the same old so-so performance. Even the Panels seem familiar in a sense, just another kludgey mish-mash of a UI perched on top of WinMo, full of inconsistencies and pointless eye-candy (how many different clocks can one phone need??) - it just all seems very dated to me.

i am in the UK till the 9th of October and realllllllly want this phone!
Now mobilefun.co.uk and expansys.com both have thee phone on pre - order, mobilefun says it should sipatch by 7th oct but obv they are not a 100 percent sure... so u guys think i shud order this with them?? wil they confirm if i still want the phone once they have it in stock like expansys???

I get what you are saying, but just because the marketing gurus fail to find anything more exciting than clocks to tempt us with doesn't necessarily mean their can't be truly useful panels.
I like the it a lot better concept imho than the htc touchflo. I've been using touchflo for a few days and it still needs a lot of tweaking (for usability) and is little more than a today screen replacement visually, but it DOES provide much better finger touch control than a WM device without anykind of touch interface.
If Xperia improves on that then it's got potential. Most end users will care about the overall user experience more than the specifications. If it doesn't have the best camera or the fastest hsdpa or the fastest processor won't matter that much if it is a joy to use (otherwise why the success of the iPhone?)
I'm keen to see xperia in the flesh and actually try it out for myself. If I can use panels for most daily operations (I don't mind using WM for file operations or other down and dirty configuration kind of stuff) and they're seemless and fast enough to be used efficiently, then I think it has a lot of potential.
However if you have to disable panels just to have a usable system (aka an old laptop with vista installed and aero turned off), then the X1 is not going to be very good value for money. I do like the hardware design (style and ergonomics), but the low spec would put me off if it wasn't for the potential of the xperia UI.

They have always stated that the Xperia brand is not tied to a single platform and that it will have multiple platforms so nothing new and no need to panic...

what low specs, is there a phone out there with better specification?
It's all the other things that worry me. Battery performance, performance in terms of speed and stability and last but not least SE support for this phone (we all know there was next to none for p990).

Increased again!? Are you serious they went to 384MB of RAM ? I wonder what purpose that would serve since 256MB seemed like more than enough. Even everything was running quickly and smoothly on a 128MB model. Perhaps they are making it WM7 ready.

For once, I think they are trying to avoid the P990i scenario. The increase in RAM is for avoiding it executing functions slow. Now, can we get a UIQ variant?
