Found a link on daily motion interviewing a MS employee. I think it was a Akhibara video or something along those lines, it was a three part video and towards the end of the first part he shows us a Samsung i780 running WM7. The i780 uses the Marvel PXA310 CPU, no accelerometer etc. I copied the link to send it to you but my comp crashed. A search should find the video though.
You have to realize though that just becuase they're testing it on current gen hardware would'nt necessarily mean it will release on current gen hardware. At motorola I've seen the Motorola A1200(MING) which is linux based running on WM6.0 but it never saw the light of day. THe final WM7 revision may require higher specs as well. But what this means is hacker "might" be able to get it running on current hardware.
Seriously speaking the X1 is'nt all that hot. As an overall packaage it seems quite ok. It is SE's flagship and a good buy for any SE fan. But the HTC THouch HD really does look great with the huge screen. the .8 makes hell of a lot of difference trust me. I'm using a 2.4in from a 2.8in and this .4 makes a huge difference. People who've used the Touch Pro and the X1 mention the .2 makes a difference as well. Imagine the 3.8 what an amazing experience it should make out to be. Like a hybrid between a phone and a tablet just what I've been waiting for. Although it lacks the processing grunt. If it had the snapdragon it would be perfect.

@aksd
Thanks, I'll search Daily Motion for the WM7 vid.
I always felt that resolution had more impact than screen size since resolution determines "how much" content you can fit onto the screen while screen size affects "how big" that content is. Then again, bigger screen also means bigger lump in the pocket too--so, "to each his own".
I don't expect anything to better the X1 until the next-gen chips hit the market next year. There will just be a lot of "matching" the X1 specs.

The resolution is how much content can be displayed on the screen, while the surface area governs how much of it is actually readable. THe Touch HD would be far superior in browsing than the X1 only for the fact that a lot of the font that would be very tiny on the X1's screen would be larger on the TD's screen. Did you get my point? You'd end up using the zoom far less. Also the larger screen would mean on the screen tpiing would be nicer as well. Viewing movies would be a far more pleasing experience.
But the bottom line is that hte Diamond, Pro, X1 and the HD are similar devices catering to slightly different market segments, each have their +'s and -'s. They're just about average nothing sensational, but at the moment its all we've got. And none of them trump the other on all points, its upto you to choose which would better suit you.

Given pinguino2’s post on 2008-09-08, display resolutions and diagonals: HTC Touch HD 800x480 and 3.8 in, Xperia X1 800x480 and 3.0 in, HTC Touch Pro 640x480 and 2.8 in., the screen densities (pixels/sq in) are as follows: 60,277; 96,711; 81,633.
Is one entitled to assume that Xperia X1 has the best sharpness of text and graphics and HTC Touch Pro is more readable than HTC Touch HD?
@pinguino2 please comment.
Thanks for your time.

I don't see any specialty in HTC HD. On top of that, I prefer a phone with keyboard. I think/believe the keybord in X1 looks good and I like the design very much.
To my personal opinion, the look of X1 surpass any currently available smartphones.
btw, I don't think panel is same as shortcut. The panels are actual running applications while shortcut is just a shortcut for you to activate the application. I believe by looking at the panels we might be able to see any sms/mail coming in, calender and task, any IM coming in... simultaneously. The panels are the actual running application that we can monitor in one shot.
