You know exactly what I meant. Stop trolling and looking for confrontations.

What an odd thing to say - yes I knew what you meant, and I disagreed with what you meant, as in the post above. I believe a shift to full touch would be a fundamental change to the UI and I can't believe that they would be planning that while releasing the phone to previewers in its current state without making it categorically clear to them that a full touch UI would be present in the finished model. Otherwise the preview is pointless, and has simply garnered them a lot of bad reviews for no reason.

The Idou previews all commented on the fact that the interface was clearly unfinished, but backed that up with information (provided by SE) on the version of Symbian the phone was likely to end up running. Nobody criticised the UI as it was since it was made abundantly clear it was largely a mockup, with even the name of the phone still open to change. The Aino "previews" are quite different.

First of all, no one knows what SE plans to do with the Aino, nor what the reviewers know under NDA terms. Therefore it's quite pointless to speculate on these matters at this juncture. Previews are always done with whatever hardware that is available at that point and yes, some people consider that as useless and wait for an actual review.

In case you're not convinced, here's a quote from GSM Arena on the Aino UI:

"Now we are not quite sure if this should be the planned behavior of the menu, but that's the way it is at this point."

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_aino-review-355p4.php

Making things categorically clear while handing over a prototype pretty much nullifies the whole point of R&D.

And here's that paragraph in full:

It's the new Media menu, which is… controlled by touch. What's even more - the only way to interact with it is by touch, so if you slide the keyboard open for example, thinking of little D-pad action there, you would be out of luck. In such cases the new Media menu just closes immediately by itself. Now we are not quite sure if this should be the planned behavior of the menu, but that's the way it is at this point

Making it quite clear they're not talking about the general principle of touch controls, but the specific issue of the media menu closing itself when the slider is opened, which may well be a bug.

Here's another quote from the same review -

We liked the idea of the touch-enabled multimedia menu, but touch-enabling the whole user interface seems a much nicer option to us. But again, that would bring up numerous other challenges that will need solving.

Seems to me they're well aware of the direction this UI has taken, and SE's reasons for not pursuing anything further. I do like your idea of an NDA though - "here chaps, review this phone, but under this NDA you cannot reveal that it's going to be any good. Bad reviews only please - ta".

It has everything to do with the main menu too. At this point, the Aino's media menu and phone functions are set as two separate functions and this is why the media menu closes when you open the slider (One of the insiders pointed this out in the rumours thread). Then may change this and extend the touch to the main menu/ dpad to the media men. but I wouldn't know until its out. neither would you.

...and I like YOUR idea of a timepass though. "Here chaps, here's the same post that I've made a dozen odd times by now. This is my PoV and I won't change it even if jesus.H.Christ almighty comes down and tells me personally; but you're free to take the bait and make my day. Toodles".

...and this is why I don't wanna bother debating with you. You are under the impression that you can think from within the collective heads of the SE R&D dept. GSM Arena team and yours truly. Call me when you can do this constructively.

Give me one good reason why, when SE chose to hand these preview phones out to reviewers, they didn't simply state "the touch functions will be extended to other menus when it's out"? Why, if that was top secret and subject to an NDA, would they allow the phone to "previewed" in such depth at all? Why, if the phone is simply unfinished and SE don't know how's it going to turn out yet, would they even announce the model - let alone hand prototypes out?

Either the UI on this phone is simply the way it is, or SE have massively screwed up in allowing all these poor reviews to be published without the full facts. Either way, it's a massive misjudgment on SE's part. Isn't it?

Because their R&D may be working on it as the phone was unveiled and it's too early to tell if the OS can be fully ported to touch use? Maybe because they wanted to present a proof of concept first? There still ARE a few months before the phone is on sale, isn't there? If it was as good as ready, they'd be selling it right now, wouldn't they?

There is no massive screwup. Microsoft allowed the blogs to use and feel WinMo 6.5's UI way before it was complete. palm allowed people to write first impressions of the pre while the WebOS was still in infancy. They were all incomplete in their own way. And that is the reason why these articles are called first looks/ previews and not reviews.

Look guys, we will all tommorow, there is some confrence thing which talks abou the aino/Yari/idou, that is where they will give any more info regarding the aino. Tbh i expect se to announce the aino will have a full touchscreen but i doubt very much that the interface will change at all, why else would they change the settings menu to "list" instead of the currents tabs menu

I've always said its best to wait to see the final edition and how it performs. Speculation at this stage is nothing but rumour talk - I should know!
